On 10 July 2017, 16 United States Marines lost their lives when their AC-130 Aerial Re-fuller suffered some sort of explosion and the AC-130 Crashed and burned with ferocity because it was filled with fuel. All Marine Corps Crewman perished. This is another example for all who serve, you do not need to be in combat to be killed, training accidents happen and lives are lost. When you are a Legionnaire, a Marine, a Royal Marine or any military service one is always at risk 24/7.

Thank you all, both Green and Blue. This hits us hard, The Marine Corps is a closed community much as is the Legion and others.

Small Correction it was a KC-130, a KC-130 is an Aerial Re-fuller. I referred to it as an AC-130, an AC-130 is the C-130 Gun Ship.

It is very surprising, C-130 and the variants, AC, KC, and ... are one of the most stable and an aircraft that simply does not crash. We used these extensively in Iraq and Afghanistan, they can land on a dirt strip in the dessert and take off again.
