But does anybody else want me back, eh? And if so, why? And if not, why not? Just out of curiosity, not being agressive, or anything.

You got my vote, for what it's worth to you. The more Anciens on here, the better. It's also better, I think, for any organization of veterans to have a mix of members from different eras; older guys for the wisdom, younger ones to ensure that the hard-earned wisdom gets remembered and passed down.

Our own VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) stateside has ran into some issues post 'Nam. There was a bit of mutual resentment between the WWII/Korea and Vietnam vets, which led to the VN guys forming their own organizations. Post 9/11, the VFW became a weird mix of Iraq/Afghanistan guys and the few remaining from the "Greatest Generation". We loved the WW2/Korea guys; I think we generally rubbed them wrong for various reasons I'll not get into unless pressed. Today, that lot is rapidly dying off, the VN guys are largely still keeping to themselves, and my generation generally isn't as involved in veteran orgs as they might be. Which is worrisome as regards the future of the organization.

So in light of all that: in words of one syllable, we don't just want auld salts like you, Papillon and Volt; we need you.

Tom Please ! :eek::eek:

The guy does not even know the name of the fort he joined at in Paris. Alright if he thinks that Aubagne is in Marseilles, it's not that far apart. When when he started talking about the hardships,i.e. starvation, sleeping on the concrete floor...
I only skipped through and I have to admit that I only got as far as the 20min03 mark.
But all of these tales of hardship and (no doubt ) brutality, does not do any good for the legion's reputation.
I am sure that he either deserted or went civil and is now trying to justify why.

The guy is a knobber.
Would you be so kind as to sum up the next 20 mins of the video? Cheers mate.

I don't think that our hero's early time is comparable with Volt's or Jonny's or Mark Wake's or Pink Floyd's as he's talking about Euros.

As I was first starting to watch his video, I began to think he deserted or didn't make it in or something, but he knew "la boudin" very easy. He hasn't bad talked the Legion at all in this video. He talks about how he entered from Spain and had two bags of Belongings that a Caporal told him to toss in the trash and he did. Talks about how proud he felt to have made it to rouge. Went into the Kepi Blanc March...he stops before he gets into how long he stayed in or anything like that but since he seemed legit, I thought id share. When I said early time in the Legion I meant his early time, not the days in Algeria or Djibouti. This guys story being told from 2010 and he said he will share more later and possibly some photos, I dunno, he seemed legit to me. I'd be fine if you took this down. I'm a wannabe anyway remember...

There's no problem it's just that it ît gives the legion a bad reputation. For example the throwing away of his kit. It just doesn't happen. Everything is inventoried and returned

Joe, in my opinion this guy's isn't a liar. Also you are right that he probably left (deserted) after he got his white kepi or right before that. (I would ask him... no, Tom already did it). BTW that is time when most guys who get accepted go home.

He obviously didn't know in what is get into. That's clear from his story. Also I'm sure he never was in any army. He looks surprised and disappointed because he couldn't talk shit and say no to his superiors! I mean what he expected? I mean, he is disturbed because female dr. checked his balls! :)
Ye, he probably painted that FFL picture of his lil bit in with his deserter colors. Took worst things in put them in that 40 min. Basically when you hear that someone don't have to say one positive thing about FFL and he deserted ... you know what time is its. OK he says food was good. That everyone says. When this shit is over I want to go just to taste legion food. Hopefully they would hold be for at least couple days. .)

But no, I don't think he lied. I mean if you joining at, least today, you should know what you getting into. Cold showers and cold rooms shouldn't surprise you. Food during farm probably isn't enough, but that is because of limited time for meal. (don't know if that is every meal every day , but i really doubt is that way ). He also says that he broke into kitchen 7 F-ing times during farm so I guess it wasn't that bad for him. Only got slapped by corporal when they finally got him.

Also complaining when guy trashed his two bags of clothing and told him that he isn't there for vacation! I mean :) wtf?
He says: "There was test, 6 m rope you need to climb, just with you hands. With help of you legs" :) :D
Hahaha, he says that building he was in French is bâtiment. Or as he pronouncing "buttie-mount ":). (something weird happened to him in that building) Just look at his face when he is saying. I'm LMAO . :D

Ye, last, but not least he say he sow a lot of "mafia thingy" guys. Anglo mafia thingy? :)

OK Dusa, for you I gave it another 6mins 11secs. He makes the 'building" out to be something from the title of a Steven King novel.
I'm not saying that the guys is liar, he most likely did go - he obviously didn't stay. What I cannot understand is how he managed to lose 22kg at the farm after having spent 1.5 months already before going there. It's true that I had lost a lot of weight in my first 2 weeks in FdeN in Paris, none of your big fry up breakfasts as in the Brit army, and no choice of food, if you didn't like it you forced yourself.
Naw, I hadn't lost that much weight, it did tone me down though. But by the time you get to Castel you are used to the reduced food. And by the time you get to the farm, your stomach is fully trained to expect to go without food until the meal times. What I mean by that is, there is no going to the fridge and getting a sandwich or opening up a packet of biscuits or potato chips.
However if doing 3 (three) hours of push ups was the norm, then I can understand how he lost 22Kg.o_O:ROFLMAO: Saying that, it's true that I always felt hungry at the farm. It's all that fresh air and all the different activities that you do. You say that the guy broke into the kitchen 7 times? I wonder why they even bothered to put a lock on it.

I just cannot agree with you that the corporal just dumped his two bags of clothing in the bin. There would be hell to play in Aubagne. EVERYTHING that you join with is noted down. This will help the "Gestapo" to better understand who you are. I could give you examples of the type of clothes you are wearing (I had a really smart leather hunting jacket), but I'm sure that you get my point.
In my day if you were not accepted you picked up everything that you brought with and if you were accepted everything was given to the Red Cross -with the exception of my leather jacket, I'm sure;). Could you imagine when the inventory goes in front of the 'Gestapo' and they ask him if that is all that he brought with him?
And when he asked to go civilian, he's wondering around Paris some Bosnian refugee?

Both REP and REG have DINOPS
From V
Yeah I checked but I did not understand quite everything on Legion recruitment site that you posted cause I speak French a little bit. Can you tell me are there still divers in engineer regiment , and what do you think should I go directly to Aubagne or Paris ?

Hi V. It was all in English. ;):). Anyway the important thing is, that you can now join up at any of the legion PILEs or PRLEs without having to send a form and wait around for the Aubagne bureau boys de sortir leurs doits du culs. Basically it means that you can join anywhere in France where they have recruits. Would I recommend Aubagne or Paris? I personally would recommend joining in Aubagne. It is a question of budget. Paris will have a certain number of recruits that they can send down each week. For example 20, If you are number 21 on the list, too bad.
You have to remember that if you join in Paris and you do not make the grade in Aubagne or you ask to leave, they have to send you back to Paris, which is twice the cost. So they would be very cautious of who they send down to Aubagne.

As for divers in the REG, yes they do still have them. In fact they also have them in 1er REC call SAF (Spécialiste d'Aide au Franchissement) these are divers who make sure that there are no obstacles and in case one of the tanks gets stuck.
