Imaginative horseshite from beginning to end.
Read it then saw the pic, maybe the USMC has changed
but I doubt it.

I agree. I didn't really understand the point the author/main character was trying to make? It seemed to be a mix of a miltary and coming of age story and neither really worked.
But the Marines still have it: SHOOTER

I was not very pleased either...
Did anyone understand why the soldiers would randomly break down and cry? I do realize they were trying to portray war and its emotional distress...but all the panic attacks were very random. If you watch the dvd version and see the deleted scenes they have even more absurd panic attacks, caused by very stupid reasons. Like the Mexican sniper who panics because he can’t find his gas masks…then everyone cries around him, that was a deleted scene too.
Definitely the most emotionally driven war movie/book ever.
