As mentioned in the article, the first Czech and Slovak volunteers enrolled in the Foreign Legion, but later with the increasing number, three specific regiments were created, commanded by a French general and his Czech 2IC.
They obtained after the war the creation of an independent state, Czechoslovakia, following the dismantlement of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
So finally, probably without knowing it, all the Czech and Slovak volunteers who arrived in the Legion in the 90s were walking in their forefathers steps.
