No words. :(

Dusaboss,

Despite my usual joshing about you, I know you to be a good and decent chap.

I only wish that my incentive offer and general cajoling had prompted you to give it a go.

Of course, for some, I appreciate, that it not an easy path to take.

Kind regards from the 'Old Fart'.

Chas and Joe,

As Chas knows I have one more opportunity with her Majesty's Armed forces, if that does not materialize as planned its FDN, Mid-May at the latest if my visa goes through without a hitch.(Gotta love 3rd world bureaucracy)

I have no desire to be a squawking Blatherskite;).

PS: Optimiste556 phoned me from the gates of FDN 42 Days ago, I have not heard from the cheeky bugger since, so its safe to assume he's in Castel getting shat on!

It'll at least make for an interesting joining story😂
It would even better if he make all the way back to UK and than again in to France. On the interview guys would think "Wow, this guy is really motivated" :)

I have flat feet, claw hammer toes, in growning toe nails, corns, bunions and a hallus valgues. ..
Me too, exactly the same, plus dandrufs, alcoholisme, paranoya, fear of hights, fear of enclosed chambers, fear of jumping out of aeroplanes.

But, then again, I did all that.

Legionnaire gets mugged, rue de Verdun (downtown Montpellier) at 03h00 this past Sunday. 2 individuals noticed the legionnaire was slightly drunk and incapable of defending himself. They hit him and robbed his mobile phone and lighter, with a Légion étrangère marking. Fortunately for the legionnaire, the scene was filmed by C.C.T.V. A police patrol was rushed to the scene and the 2 aggressors were rapidly arrested.
During the search, the legionnaire's lighter and phone was found. Explanation given by the suspects : he owes us money for drugs we sold him. That was denied by by the 30 yearish legionnaire. The police contacted the legionnaire 's Regiment (not divulged), who do regular anti-drug controls on their personnel and the legionnaire was cleared and declared innocent. The two aggressors remain in custody and will be presented in front of a judge, this Monday (i.e. yesterday)

The streets of France are swarming with leaches. There's not a day going by without crap happening. When the Legion is somehow involved, it usually makes the headlines too. Stick together and if one of the crew is under the weather, call a cab and escort him back to camp (do not send him alone with the cabbie, he'll get over charged).

I guess this is what they teach them in the corps. "There is no such thing as ex-marine. You would never be left alone once you become marine. etc"
I think truth is little bit different and all I care about is truth!

If you knew how tough Parris Island was, and what the life style of a Marine entails, you would understand. After the final event in basic, we march about 20 miles back after 3 days of combat training manuvers and tests, with 3 hours of sleep each night and 1 meal a day. When we get there, our drill instructors hand us our Eagle, Globe and Anchor pendants, which attach to our service uniform covers. When my "Kill hat" (the drill instructor who punishes your platoon the most) handed me mine, I sobbed like a baby, tears of joy. It's something nobody can take away from you. A lot of the times, just knowing that I survived all that, has kept me going through very rough times, being homeless, being mugged, losing my fiance.

You don't understand because you aren't a Marine. Maybe if you make it into the Legion, you will understand the pride one feels when they earn a title that few other have earned

I understand everything you said. What I don't understand is when retired marines get upset when someone calls them ex marine. Is that so big of a difference between "ex" and "retired"? (I'm not ex to my GF. I'm just retired from making love with her. :))

But I been through this story couple times with USMCRET.

I don't get upset, but some do, some Marines take it very seriously. I don't think it's such a huge deal, unless the "ex" term is being used in a disrespectful way
