Real FFL

i have just left the service of the british army (after 8 years service), i was in 29 commando regiment for most part and ended up serving in 1 PARA (SFSG) by the end of my service. I am currently considering joinin the FFL, but have heard some "undesirable" things about it. I was hoping that serving members could clear this up for me.

1) That the FFL is run by a "fear of the NCO" effect, rather than respect. And the welfare of any of its serving members is thrown to the wind (as in, once your in, your ours to do with as we see fit).

2) That the standard of soldiering in the FFL is poor, and you are basically used as cannon fodder for the French. That they will push you on to fight blindly with no regarde for its soldiers, and if you dont do it, chances are the NCO's will put a bullet in you.

These are not my views, but are rumours from soldiers (probably around the world) in the British Forces. I would like it if someone serving could tell me (without the sugar coating) what to expect in the FFL. It would be most appreciated.

surerly ex29cdo if u served with the british army u should already know the answers to your questions,i served with 45 commando and never heard such shit spouted about the ffl. where these rumours come from are beyond me,and cant believe u actually posted that expecting a serious answer. like the past post said,search and you will find answers...all will be revealed.

Actually it was in Norway, we had a small group of legionaires (6 i believe) who were on our Royal Marines Cold Weather Warfare Course. Funnily enough they all failed, but they were a determined bunch. With the brits they look for free thinkin individuals who can operate in a team. But all in all you must have to rely on your skills as an individual to go anywhere with ya career and stay alive on OPS.
The legion lads seemed strangely determined to see out there mission, but with a certain lack of "flair" (was strugglin for a word to describe it). What i was impressed with is they didn lose heart, which is pretty easy to do in the arctic. Even our own lads (the weak ones) were pourin naptha on there hands to get frost nip and get off excersise.
I was wonderin if someone with the right skills and the same determination could be succesful in the FFL. But i heard (cliche comin) from a mate of mine in the royal marines (SBS) who worked with them some shit stuff, just wondered if it were true.

I am not a serving Legionnaire anymore, but this is how it was in my time:
1) by respect only (perhaps during instuction there was some fear for a pointed size 12)
2) that is the opinion of one person, others will say the opposite. They do not push to fight blindly, no NCO or officer would want to waste the lives of the men under his command. No NCO in his right mind would murder one of his men for disobeying an order, that is for a court martial to decide.
