No NCO in his right mind would murder one of his men for disobeying an order, that is for a court martial to decide.
As i expected, just needed to clear away any doubts put in my head by a colleague. thanks for he reply.

Think....Legionnares serve a minimum of 5 years in the foreign legion
,in that five years of hard trainings and discipline is normal to create the best
soldiers in the world...there is no army in the world that has such a contract like legion...you become property of legion...even if you are disabled and invalid in five years inside the legion they will make you better soldier than british commando
those who speak against the legion must know that legion is the world's most elite military force ... the difference from other armies makes it special ... every country has the commandos, and all of that commando units claim that they are best ... but there is only one legion etrangere in world that has such history and respect.

I am currently considering joinin the FFL, but have heard some "undesirable" things about it. I was hoping that serving members could clear this up for me.

    1) That the FFL is run by a "fear of the NCO" effect, rather than respect. And the welfare of any of its serving members is thrown to the wind (as in, once your in, your ours to do with as we see fit).

    2) That the standard of soldiering in the FFL is poor, and you are basically used as cannon fodder for the French. That they will push you on to fight blindly with no regarde for its soldiers, and if you dont do it, chances are the NCO's will put a bullet in you.

These are not my views, but are rumours from soldiers (probably around the world) in the British Forces. I would like it if someone serving could tell me (without the sugar coating) what to expect in the FFL. It would be most appreciated.

    Without sugarcoating!?!?! OK.

The Legion is just like any high standard professional army full of hard work and plenty of crap and nonsense. Since you have 8 years of British army behind you I suppose that you understand what I am talking about.

However the Legion (just like the British army) cannot (like in the Rambo films or similar) just cut out all the boring and difficult tasks that are not interesting on film.
Somebody must change the light bulbs, somebody must paint the walls, and somebody must clean the rubbish.
Unlike other armies the Legion haven’t got large civilian staff that does the “dirty” work and everything is done by the Legionnaires themselves. Therefore Legion life is a lot of crap with some interesting military side effects.
This creates solid and strong soldiers, capable of operating anywhere in the world under any conditions.

I often say that many of the elite forces of the world are like Ferraris or a High powered Mercedes; high quality, sophisticated, and unbeatable in their specific job.
On the other hand; the Legion is like a Land Rover, solid, simple, and reliable.
I am not sure it will win in Monaco, but if your goal is to get from A to B somewhere in Africa or in Afghanistan? Well… Guess what??

Regarding your points one and two, I would in order to stay polite rather not make any other answer than BS!!!

    Re: Real FFL

Just like Stoeng says, in the Brits we had hordes of civvies to do all our menial shite whereas in the Legion we didn't have that luxury and all the menial shite was done by us Legionnaires on a company rotation. So whoever told you they were shite probably never liked the shitty part of the job.
In the Brits if we were asked to do something you had the right tools and materials to do the job whereas in the Legion you 'demerde with what you find. ie alot more improvisation and adapting to situations.
Soldering skills, I served in 2REP, 5RE, 40CDO, 45CDO, and I took a bit from each of these units to better my soldiering abilities.
During anti tank concentrations in the REP we shone above other French para units, same as during anti tank concentrations in the Corps we shone above other Army units.
If you go you will see what I mean. But never try and compare the two, just accept what is taught to you. With time and experience you can try different courses and better your military knowledge with the variety of courses within the Legion. good luck
    eh up jock/chas.
