    Gestapo/Security checks/prior military experience

    G'day

When applying to join the Legion would it benefit someone if they had military experience? If you tell the recruiters this at Aubagne will they be able to get access to your military record? According the Legion website the selection process takes up to 10 days. In all honesty how can they possibly conduct a thorough background check on anyone in 10 days?
Are they just looking for criminal convictions or do they look for anything?

Righto then, Ill remember to delete my facebook before i rock up in Aubagne

If the guy was a deserter from the UK Army he'd show up with a criminal record, thats why they found it. I dont have a crim record of any kind. He may have up front told them he had deserted aswell. As for the gay porn star, whos not say that the recruiting officer already knew what to look for ey ;p Just kidding.

But seriously how do they do it? I may be joining the Australian Defence Force next year and as far as I know being in the military in this country isn't illegal and you dont get a Police record from it, or any record that can accessed outside of ADF people.

Try giving an internet geek your real name (or just your primary email) and see what he can dig up about you.

If you are under 30 yrs old then all your record e.g. school graduation, jobs apps (resume), legal activities are probably online, not to mention your facebook and that kind of craps. I used to process applications for candidates in my institute- with realname, birthdate and ID number and a few access of gov databases you can scrutinize almost anything-- that's in my country though.

You can do some pretty interesting stuff on finding out about ppl these days. but it is getting tougher. They'll find out if you joined ADF because you would have said something somewhere about it like here.Or some one else like your friends may have. All you have to do is tell one bloke your user id here and if they hear it or know it then they can have a good read.
if you delete your facebook profile data it's still saved for a while because you may want to reopen the account, in effect you have to go through two deletion processes. Though this may be changing because of the privacy laws and all the news facebook is stirring up at the mo.

    Facebook:
If a friend tagged photos, video, notes or anything else of you, you can still be found, your facebook profile just goes dead blank but your name is still present not to mention how many friends you have and if anyone of them wishes to make their profile publicly seen by (all) thats another way they can potentially find out info about you, not to mention if you use any facebook apps these apps are not stored on facebook they are stored on other websites developers servers who capture your information when you agree to give them this info when installing the app on your facebook account... depending on how secure they are thats more info to be found about you. basically facebook is a window to many other websites that just show up through facebook branded pages.

    Search Engines
Google, bing, yahoo, etc, indexes all these public sites or pages that have been publicly activated where you sign up for including friends on facebook who have full public profiles and including this site, do you use the same user id anywhere else? thats another way how they'll find you (data matching) is a good trick. once they find one good match they next try to find your geo locations sometimes a site displays an ip address on messages in forums, they can track your physical address with this info and then match your name up on any public records in that physical location and walla, they have you. plus you may have put your address somewhere. all that's needed is a few matching sets of your user id, a name and a network location, like your network locations on facebook and you can start profiling someone pretty quickly.

I know there is a whole heap more ways but I think you get the idea mate.

    TIP:
Be as honest as your memory allows. even if you're secretly a gay porn star, you better tell them. Stick solid to your story. Let them make the decisions.

Blimey are you one of those computor geeks then!!?
Honesty is always the best policey..might not be easy to admit somethings(gay porn star huh!!) cough!!.....because you can bet your bottom dollar whatever your not upfront about will ALWAYS come back to bite you on the arse....even if its a cute one Ha!

    Bags
You can spend, minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation, trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've, should've happened...or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the fook on...
