    bonjour mes amis

Hello this is my first post on this site,I am aliving historian interested in all aspects of the french foreign legion. I am looking to purchase some items from the legion website,my first question is this; my usual hat size is 57 but I notice that the green beret of the legion sits higher on the head than other berets so does this mean I need to purchase a smaller size or are they still numbered up the same but cut differently? I hope someone can clear this point up for me.Many thanks,Andy

If I recall, (57 ye've an awfull big heed), just buy a 57 and shrink the felt part of it in scalding water, try not to immerse the leather band in the water then shape it on your heeed, tear out the lining on yer everyday beret but keep the lining in yer 'good' beret.
(don't let any of the adults know you've ripped out the lining or you'll get 'un coup de main sur la suade)
The reason you tke the lining out is to give it a better shape so you look cool. And so you dont look like you've got a helipad on yer tete, thats left to the occifers.
This might have changed recently, this is what I remember from my sejour a la Legion.

Well Welcome to the Forum... Keep posting.
Why don't you simply join the legion if you're already interested in all the aspects of the legion and then get a real beret for sure

    Goodluck!

hello SeanG I am too old now to join the Legion and yes I wish I had done it years ago.I am a living historian and collect uniforms of various forces to entertain and educate people at various military shows around the country.it makes sense to collect uniforms that fit me so that I can wear them.I wish to portray a legionnaire and hope to use this site to learn as much as possible about the history and uniforms etc of the Legion. It is not my intention to upset anyone, I do not want to pretend that I was or am a legionnaire I wish to bring awareness and education to people about the Legion and I would do this with respect to all Legionnaires past and present.I will be interested to hear some of your opinions about what I intend to do.Andy

No worries... we are just a bit”touchy” in these matters (too many pretenders walking around in bars and pubs).

I am sure that all the “old” legionnaires on this board will give you all the advise that you might need.
