what made you join up

I guess this thread may seem at first somewhat similar with the other one, "what do you want out of the legion", but that's not the case. Adressing mainly actual or ex legionairs (but the wannabees that plan to join in the not distant future aswell) I am curious what made you join up, regarding your life before you got into the legion. The purpose of this is that I've heard many people saying that "your life has to be in disarray to want to join", "you probably don't have other good options if you want to join",etc witch I find a little odd, since it seems to be being a legionair is motivational enough without being necessary to have a bad life at home to want to join. So, was your life miserably, were you poor, had you problems, didn't you have any other good options, or were you compelled just by what the legion stands for (the reasons from the thread mentioned above).

No it is not.

Here you can talk about individual circumstances not about a movie you have seen.

Not everybody joins because of a coll movie online, some have a background for their choice, which might be interesting to know if they are willing to share.

Sure we might know some of that if we follow what Anciens and serving Legionnairessay but anyways it is always some additional info.

No Ill answer it. My life in England at the end of 1984 was shite and the only career I had was as a soldier. Went to France and joined the Legion and never regreated a second of it... Simple as that.

I did not REALLY have a good reason, it was more at the spur of the moment. See my short biography on my web site.

I grew up in a very small village, being a deep thinker and watching the people who lived there I just knew that the world was massive and that I had to see more of it, the Brit army at that time only had Ireland going on and maybe a posting to Germany, so thats why I joined to see the world and live it through a different perspective and boy Iam glad I did it shaped they way I live my life and the way when in a foreign country that I can intergrate with the locals on their level, so no sob story from me about a shit life before or a last chance saloon.
