    Croatian Army

I have not been able to come across any information (in English) pertaining to the Croatian military. I am curious: how professional do you guys regard it as? Do any Croatian soldiers frequent this board? I am interested in any and all information you mates can give me on it.
Why do I ask? For those who are curious: my old man runs a small chance of getting Croatian citizenship within the next year. If he does, then he's my foot in the door. The FFL is my first choice, but I would be foolish not to have a backup plan. I have a great deal of pride for my ancestry, and would be proud to serve in the Croatian military.
    Cheers,
    William

Just to avoid some confusion. This site is a tribute to volunteers who fought on the Croatian side during the 'Balkans war' in the early '90s. It's no longer an active unit. I knew very well one of the French guys mentioned, who got KIA in 1992.

The Croats are some of the best. As BobW might be able to tell us more about, they were "advised" by the US during the war, which means they were being led well. Also, if you compare the stats, it is very impressive that Croatia was able to fend of Serbia. I spent a summer in Croatia, and there are some hard bastards there.P.S.
For what it's worth, look up "CroCop" on the ultimate Fighting Championship. Former infantry officer, and allround bad ass

Nah sikter, I don't understand any Croatian. I could probably get somebody to translate for me though. Do either of the Croatian sites you recommended contain any information pertaining to recruitment (ideally to their policies regarding foreigners)?
I've heard of Cro-cop before; never seen "Ultimate Fighting Championship" though (don't got cable).

    We'll see what happens. If I don't get citizenship I can't join.

Just noticed this post, I'm from Croatia and the best advice I can give you is STAY AWAY from Croatian Military. First off, you'd most likely only do the mandatory 6 months, chances for permanent employment in the military are very low.

Copperhead don't get them started. Maybe someone should close the thread in advance. . Best way to ifnd out about the wars in Balkan is to google out some independent page.

Why don't you join your own military. The chances are, you'll see more action than in FFL.

If you define more action by some jihadist cunt driving up next to me and self-detonating... then yeah, I can see where you're coming from.
As for the War in the Balkans...

I hope that link works... Read that book. It explains why most Americans don't know their ass from a hole in the ground about what went on in the Balkans.

Concerning "action", I presume that is why one would join a military. If we only could chose our death. Do you think that there will be a multiple choises in FFL or that you wont encounter jihadists where ever FFL might be deployed in the future.ahhh...excuse me CCH, I'm sorry to say this but I respectfully decline. That seems to be a bit dangerous. First you make me guard that extremly exposed gate and now, I mean, letting the tank roll over you like that...
    joke, u know

I've stated my reasons for wanting to join the FFL more than once on this site. I've also stated my position concerning the occupation of Iraq more than once on this site. I don't care enough about what you think of me to restate them. It'd be a waste of time, both yours and mine.
    Cheers,

Okay... To cut on loooong story short : the (civil) war in the Balkans (precisely in former Yugoslavia) erupted in 1991, 10 years or so after the death of Marshal Tito (Josip Broz by his real name) who was holding the country in an 'iron fist', when the various republics of the Serbia-dominated Yugoslav federation decided to secede. It started with Slovenia (which is now part of EU), then continued with Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. May be names like Sarajevo, Vukovar, Srebenica, Pdt Milosevic, Gen Mladic ring a bell ? If you have the opportunity, you may want to watch a very good documentary from the BBC called "Yugoslavia : suicide of a European nation".

Now gentlemen from FY : that was just to answer a question from Copperhead. Don't consider this an invitation to re-open a never ending thread of bitter posts about who was wrong, who was right, who started first, etc. Join the Legion and you'll all become friends !
