    Medical Disqualifications?

I was just wondering what sort of medical requirements/disqualifications there were for joining the FFL. I.e. asthma, anaphylaxis, eyesite, etc. I have searched but haven't been able to find anything on it.

    Re: Medical Disqualifications?

If you visit the Legion website (the French version), there's a lot more detailed information about the medicals than in the English version... And the Anciens probably can't give you a sure answer whether your "handicaps", whatever they may be, will keep you achieving your dreams. I say go for it and see for yourself...

If you wish a more detailed answer you probably would need to give a bit more details yourself. But like I said, try it...

Not picking on you personally, but if "just go and see for yourself" were the answer people wanted to or needed to hear this board would'nt be neccessary, yet it seems like for every question asked at least one individual offers this up as an answer.

    Re: Medical Disqualifications?

Well, I' asking the question...seeing as how it disqualifies me from US armed forces...I have asthma and anaphlaxis to peanuts. I'm asking since I haven't had an "allergic reaction" to peanuts since I was 10 and now I'm 20. Also, I have asthma...and alwas have, but I run 3-5 miles a day and then go swimming 1 mi (helps as a breathing exercise) and it's been a dream to joined the military...any military. I'm going to school to become a D.O. (doctor of osteopathic medicince...an M.D. with an extra year)...but I want to join for other reasons (not to be a doctor, but for a more physical aspect).

    Re: Medical Disqualifications?

I am not at all a medical doctor or otherwise a specialist on the subject. However, I have never heard about people being accepted in the Legion with asthma.

It is OK that you do sport and have no problems in your daily life, but do you sincerely think that the Legion is going to take a risk on you having a crisis during the most inconvenient moment? The Legion can (and will) send you anywhere in the world, from the desert to the Arctic via the Amazon jungle. They are not going to send somebody that could have a major breathing deficiency at the wrong moment.

You Americans are almost all the same . Did you ever see John Wayne running around with his Pshhhhttt… bottle while fighting the Vietcong during the film "The Green Berets" ? No….. ?? So why the f**k should the average legionnaire run around with one?

Allergy to peanuts is a total disqualification from the start as arachide oil is found in a lot of food substances as YOU well know!!!!

Why do you guys think that the Legion will make any exceptions to any kind of medical disorder you may have? STOP right here, they won't, they will however make exceptions concerning your criminal past and they don't care at all about what nationality you are but that's where the free ride stops. You have to be medically fit, no exceptions and given the competition with the sheer numbers that they have to choose from, you had better be reasonably fit sport wise.

The Legion at the end of the day is a professional army and not the Salvation Army. Don't forget it before posting stupid questions.

...if you've a nervous disorder such as epylepsy don't join....ashtma might also disqualify you and colour blindness is also borderline...just make sure you can distinguish red and green and also blue as preferred ops colours..

...post the link to the French version of the Legion website on this thread. Perhaps it needs to be made into a sitckie...

The one leg bit is true, as far as I know, but your dick must be able to take up the slack.

But have you taken into account that there are two major forms of arachis oil: the commercial and the cold-pressed. If they use commercial I wouldn't have a problem as it's a protein and I won't have an allergic reaction...cold-pressed is a different story.

Oh well, at least they say they're 5 years out from having a peanut allergy cure.
