I'm 37, had two back surgeries (I can do more now than I could when I was 22 in the US Army)........I am also facing a felony here in the US. I am fit, determined, and strong willed. Can anyone (who is a current or ex-Legionaire) comment. Money is tight I I can't afford to just get on a flight to France and then find out I should have never came. I am determined to make this happen if the Legion will allow me in!
Introduce yourself properly before you start asking questions(it's the polite thing to do), then maybe they'll bother answering these type of questions... for the millionth time.
And you will also find all the info you need by using the searchbox or looking at old threads.

Listen, I was just in France (Paris) last week, for the sole purpose of joining the Legion. I had a one way ticket from the UK to Paris and I arrived late wed night. I ran into a guy who had three close friends who wanted to join previously. One had a back problem with surgical scars. He was rejected just because of the scar. I have a very visible scar from my lower back surgery. I was on a seriously tight budget ($) and based on what this guy said about his friend, I figured I wouldnt stand a chance......SO, I made a judgement call to get back to the UK to get my return flight to the US. I now regret it. I know what I want and I should have gone for it!. I was just worried about being stranded in France with no money if I were to be rejected!
With my two main issues (back surgeries & pending felony), I decided I needed to go back. But I am hoping to hear from a current OR ex-Legionaire to get their thoughts?

I spent 6 years in the US Army...11Bravo and Stinger Missle Gunner. I never dropped out of a road-march or a run....no matter how long each was. Mind over matter! I have no doubt I can take whatever is thrown at me. I have never gave up on a physical or mental challenge. I know I have never been exposed to the extreme challenges that the legion will throw at me but I know that I am committed to doing the best I can. I want a purpose in life and I dont have that here and now. I know the legion can provide me with a family I want and have always wanted.
To me, my back is not an issue, I can carry a rucksack for 20 miles and not blink an eye. I am 37, 185, and out of shape. Providing the3 legion will get me into shape, I feel I can handle what is thrown at me.

Let's be serious now. You went to France with the intention of joining and didnt do it.....that says ALOT. Forget the Legion. The back reconstruction will undoubtedly eliminate you alone. Your age will probably eliminate you as well. Strike two. Out of shape as well?? Forget the Legion. We have no need to discuss pending felonies and what you did or didnt do or what you will or will not do.....it doesnt matter at this point. Good luck to you with your pending felonies.

look mate the training would kill your back you would end up stranded and crippled.

i was 29 when i joined the training was hell as i never did much before going i have seen guys get backs fecked and legs

Sorry 11B but your not going to make it in the Legion. I am also former US Army as well as Legion. Your not to old but the back problem will kill you. As for being out of shape, haha, no chance man! The legion is nothing like the US Military they dont take fat guys and make them thin. The legion takes the best they can get and makes them better. You would not survive, I am sorry. You have to understand that there are thousands upon thousands of guys trying to get in every year, all of them fitter than you, younger than you, and not from a country that has a bad reputation for deserters. What can you bring to the Legion? Determination is not enough (everyone is determined their first day). Try to go back into the US Military, fix your felony problem of course. If you can join the Guard before you get to far into the Felony thing. The guard has One year contracts now. You could always go into active duty after the felony thing is taken care of. I am sorry the Legion is not for you, man!
