    Serbia captures fugitive Karadzic

Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic, one of the world's most wanted men, has been arrested tonight in Serbia after more than a decade.

He has been brought before Belgrade's war crimes court, in accordance with a law on cooperation the Hague Tribunal, the Serbian presidency said.

The Bosnian Serb wartime political leader disappeared in 1996.

He had been indicted by the UN tribunal for war crimes and genocide over the 1995 massacre at Srebrenica.

His wartime military leader, Ratko Mladic, remains at large.

"Radovan Karadzic was located and arrested tonight" by Serbian security officers, a statement by the office of President Boris Tadic said, without giving details.

"Karadzic was brought to the investigative judge of the War Crimes Court in Belgrade, in accordance with the law on cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia."

    Karadzic denial

Mr Karadzic denied the charges against him soon after the first indictment and refused to recognise the legitimacy of the UN tribunal.

The UN says Mr Karadzic's forces killed at least 7,500 Muslim men and boys from Srebrenica in July 1995 as part of a campaign to "terrorise and demoralise the Bosnian Muslim and Bosnian Croat population".

He was also charged over the shelling of Sarajevo, and the use of 284 UN peacekeepers as human shields in May and June 1995.

After the Dayton accord that ended the Bosnian war, the former nationalist president went into hiding.

International pressure to catch Mr Karadzic mounted in spring 2005 when several of his former generals surrendered and a video of Bosnian Serb soldiers shooting captives from Srebrenica shocked television viewers in former Yugoslavia.

Will he be brought in Haag? Living in a former country the newspaper was full of him every day. He will probably sit for the rest of his life. The police and UN attempted a lot of times to catch him with the help of listening devices and informants but it seemed he exited the house at the back door every time. First reports of his hiding were that he hides abroad (Russia; Romania; Caribbean islands), family house, later the circle was probably narrowing and reports showed he is in a remote village in Serbia (sometimes even BIH). I bet he was hiding in a remote house full of humidity and plants all over outside walls.

...He was arrested on boarding public transportation in Belgrade...someone will be assassinated for this 'unpatriotic' arrest....Zoran Gingic, the Serb PM who arrested and extradited Slobadan Milosovic, was killed by a sniper....go figure the rest...[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Surprised he was able to evade capture for ten years disguised as Father Christmas, must have had hundreds of kids pestering him for stuff around early December.

...the French presidency and government fumbled this entire episode of European history while claiming a leadership role in European Union defence.

...French General Bernard Janvier, the overseeing UNPROFOR commander, has a lot to answer for in also fumbling the Srebrenica episode by invoking 'comfortable paper procedure' to stop air-strikes requested by the UNPROFOR DUTCHBAT commander in order to dissuade the Serb onslaught at a critical moment of the siege: yes, soldiers follow orders blindly but there is room for interpretation if you know how to go about it especially as a senior UNited nations/UNPROFOR commander with a clear humanitarian mandate. French general Philippe Morillon uinderstood it; French General Janvier didn't. General Janvier is even accused of colluding with Ratko Mladhic, the Serb general overseeing the massacre, whom he met before the entire Srebrenica episode.

The French claimed 'une certaine idée de la France' including an objection to NATO at the time, to the detriment of defending a lightly armed Bosnian Muslim community, that is, with no tanks and little artillery unless captured and certainly no air force before a conniving Serbia acting in cahoots with Bosnian Serbs...it took UNPROFOR General Ruper Smith (UK) 'to clear the air' and order air-strikes against the Serbs during the absence of Janvier 'on holiday/leave' shortly after the massacre became known: too much pride and ego did nothing for French projection in the international community on this occasion....Maggie Thatcher said 'Bomb the Serbs' right at the start of the conflict in mid-1991: she turned out to be right but only after 200,000 Bosnians had perished over four years, and deep scars had been reopened as well as created in a country three hours' drive from Vienna....my two centîmes worth....[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgrF1dg_WsM"]Al Jazeera: the Srebrenica massacre[/ame]....[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgUrnFvdqgg&feature=user"]Al Jazeera: Karadic update[/ame]

Nowadays, 'une certaine idée de la France' includes removing a long-standing objection to NATO since De Gaule took France out of NATO in 1954; and participating eventually in 2009 in the NATO integrated command structure without compromising its long-standing independence in deploying its troops outside its framework of vital and geo-strategic national interests: these changes of policy could have been done much sooner....French presidents and French government policy may change but these changes can't bring back 200,000 dead Bosnians...

    Re: Serbia captures fugitive Karadzic

with all my repsect for you lads, you know LITTLE about The Srebrenica MASACRE as you call it... It is a one of the biggest media deceptions of all times. Now I am not saying that no one got killed in Srebrenica in august '95, but the number is expanded by a 3500-4000 men who were Muslim fighters and got killed fighting with the Army of Bonian Serbs. These men supossed to be unarmed, because this was a demilitarised zone (the zone without any weapons). The Islam radical fighters were smuggling weapons into this area and during 5-6 months maneged to kill 5-6 hundreds of Serb civilians who lived in surrounding villages. One group of 40 elder people over 60 years including some children were brutaly slaughtered and butchered on the Christmas day by Muslims and Mujahedins, under command of Naser Oric(war criminal who wasn't convicted in Hauge for his crimes).
Becuse of this Army of Bosnian Serbs captured the Srebrenica and UN soldiers (whose only job was to secure this area from weapon smuggling), and then 2000-3000 of muslims were killed.
7000-8000 is a number which is formed of all those Muslim fighters and Mujahedins who got killed in encounter with the Bosnian Serb's Army.
so the number is made by a media campagne, and I am not saying that no one got killed.
no one mentions what happened before this, and who provoked it.

    Re: Serbia captures fugitive Karadzic

OK guys be careful with what you believe and post here!!! Now I know there were bad things done by all sides but I can promise you the Serbs take the brunt of it due to left wing media!!! I was in the former Yugoslavia for over 2 yrs. with the Legion and because of the things I saw go on I refuse to let TV news to be played in my house!!!!!
While out on patrol one day our platoon commander decided to take a different route then usual and what do we come across....The Bosnians firing motars into Sarajevo under the supervision of the UN. We are immediately approched by the UN people and told to leave and that there is nothing going on here that concerns us and as far as were concerned nothing happened and we didnt see anything! This was screamed to us in English so I didnt miss hear a word!!! That night the great CNN reported that "look what the serbs did today" 100 + Bosnians killed by motar fire in a Sarajevo market place! We all just kinda looked at each other and said what the ****!!!
We also caught or captured an Isreali free lance journalist on the airport that was living with the Bosnians (she was very Pro Bosnian) who openly told us yes the Bosnians are killing their own people but they have to to get world opinion on Their side!!!!
When did you ever hear reported that the Legionnaires in Former Yugoslavia built an anti sniper wall for a Serbian retirement home because the Bosnian sniper had nothing better to do then shoot at retirement age Serbs!!! We even had a Legionnaire wounded by the Bosnian snipers while putting up that wall (bad enough that his soldiering career was ended) Did you ever hear that reported?????? So becarful what BS news site you quote here please!
I would rather be a conservative NUTJOB then a liberal with no nuts and no job !!!

    Re: Serbia captures fugitive Karadzic

Interesting, i'm reading a book about Karadzic life and the trial in the Joegoslavie tribunaal in Den Haag.

with all due respect, i don't wanna step on anybody's toes but i wanna say something here.

What Karadzic and his companions did is very bad and killing thousands of innocent people gotta be punished but what most people dont know is that the bosnian muslims started the conflict late 80's.
The Serbian nation in Yugoslavia (Karadzic) took sh*t from these muslims for many years. I make more profound in this subject.

It's like Gaza, we all blame Israel for bombing the area but what we dont know (cause its not stunning enough in the newspapers) is that Israel gets bombed every single day by the Hamas since 1980.

once again i don't wanna hurt any feelings.

Don't worry about my toes! I take offense to nothing! Every one has opinions on this and thats fine mine are from what I observed! All sides did the same things in this conflict it's just that many times regaurdless of who did it, it got blamed on the big bad mean and evil Serbs ( You in particular Jastrabov) Now why the world went so pro Bosnian I'll never understand!!! The Muslims are only even there because of a Trukish invasion of Serbia many many many years ago but they are not natives! Next to me that situation was no different then the French Arabs taking up arms and decideing they want Marsrille for there own country because their the majority there or the Cubans doing the same in Fla.!!!

none offence is taken here, but some of you are just wrong about the Serbs and all those WAR CRIMES stuff that you here on TV.
Thanks Broncs for explaining some things here.
As we know Broncs was in the Bosnia and he saw the truth with his own eyes.. so if anyone knows what was happening there it's him.
Forget about sh..t you here on TV and listen to the people who have been there and who witnessed the whole truth.
SIMPLE: the TV is not always right.
