    Icon Question Misc Medical

Hey everyone, i have a question i hope somebody can help me with. I have wanted to join the Legion for ten years now and I'm currently 20 years of age and have been training a lot for when i leave to France... but the only thing i can think of that would hold me back is me having cancer. Not only is cancer bad enough but more specificly testicular cancer and resulting in me losing one of my little soldiers... would anyone know if that would result in a one way ticket back to my home country?

    Thanks

That seems to me serious problem, enough to be sent away. Just on the off chance you get a recurring cancer somewhere else. Just think about it, they have 90% more applicants than spots available. However, as many times have been written, there are no hard and fast rules in the legion. Just be sure to have a plan B

    Re: Misc Medical

I am sorry to hear about your medical situation, and I hope that you will recover as smoothly and quickly as possible.

On the other hand, you must allow me to ask… Are you completely out of your mind?
I cannot imagine any military organization in the world, not even the Salvation Army that will accept a new recruit that is having cancer or any other serious illness.
Military units are supposed to work as military units and not as medical treatment centres.

Try to recover from your illness (you are still very young), and then we will see.
However I am afraid that in a case like cancer there is little hope for that any army will accept you even after a full recovery, simply because they do not want to take the risk of any re-appearing of your illness.

Plus even without the cancer there was a guy maybe 2 years ago who was disqualified by one of the doctors for having only one nut. Not sure why that was a dis qualifier, but he got sent home permanent disqualifier.

(there are prosthetics that can be put in by doctor. No joke, rubber nuts... )

My misstake for not going into detail, i had the cancer when i was 15 and am now 100% cancer free and have been for 5 years, and my doctors have said that the type of cancer i had would not come back.

Well, there is an edit function, go back and edit your original post so it actually represents what you want it to say. Getting your point across and communicating effectively is important if you want to pass interviews and interrogations and give biographical information.

    It's called "Attention to detail".

Also your country of origin is the "U.S." or the "U.S.A.", not "us", and "I", if you are referring to yourself, is capitalized.

He misspelled 'mistake' and no comma is required after the word 'and' as well, Nick. And I though I was a bitch! Very uncharacteristic of you.

Actually it should be the U.S. of A. but alot of us Americans always say the U.S. or the U.S.A.

Also, your country of origin is referred to as: "The U.S. of A", not "us" and "I", if one is referring to oneself, is capitalised. let him whom is bereft of wrongdoings fling the first scone

    Hehe,

Well, I don't mind being corrected, in fact I appreciate it (thanks Mise, though in the U.S. of A. we use "you" more than "one", but you got me on the comma mistakes). How else do we learn or better ourselves. Samtoo I saw the other mistakes, but I figured I was already giving him a hard enough time...haha.

So I am not casting stones, or scones. Just trying to get some kid to look a little more closely at what he writes and how he presents himself. So many young guys come on here with slang and poor writing like, "hey DOoDes! Whats happenin? i Wanna no more about the legin!!" and it looks like shit and makes it hard for anyone to take them seriously.

Lord knows my grammar isn't perfect despite being an teacher. We all make plenty of mistakes, it is just the blatant ones that get to me.

As for the U.S.A. thing, really, it comes down to recognition. If you say U.S., EVERYONE knows which country you are talking about. If you say "America" a bunch of touchy people south of the border get their panties in a bunch.

It is after all the United States of America, so if you say U.S., people generally don't go, "Oh, exactly which United States were you referring to?"

I've had lots of associations with Latinos from south of the border...I never heard any of them whine about Americans using the US and America synonymously. Where do they think they come from .....the continent? And what about Jamaicans?
