what to take: Passport, national id card, running shoes, a change of underwear, shaving kit with shaving gel,and disposable razors, tooth brush and tooth paste, towel and wash cloth. 200-400 French francs (I believe that is 40 -80 euros).
    ************************************************** *******
What not to take: Cell phone or calling card, cd player etc., cumbersome objects, useless papers like photographs, diaries, love letters etc. knives or other object you can stab with, atm cards (i assume that would include credit cards) .

In Aubagne they will let you keep 60 euros.. The rest will be put in your file folder with your passport, credit card airplane ticket and so on...

In Aubagne they will take away all of your civilian clothing so dont bother at bringing your whole wardrobe... three pairs of everything is fine (shirt, mickymouse underwear, socks..)

Good quote Fish Sauce. As far as items of kit are concerned, take the basics as already stated. I actually took a French/English dictionnary and that helped somewhat.
