    What about life....

My family has been involved in every major battle since G*d knows, from the Eastern Front of WW2 to the streets in Angola. But as I read through the Legion Site, I notice, everyone wants answers to questions, even if there are answers all around.

What is life, what do you want out of it? Do you want to be a Legionnaire or not? Some times in life you have to do what you think you were born to do, if going to france is it, then don't worry about depts and other people, go, don't sit for weeks and months asking questions, stop hesertating and go.....

I leave for Australia soon. Sadly the home I love in South Africa, my home country that I love with every ounce of blood, I have to leave cause if I don't I will soon be another dead white male that our goverment does not even care about.

I will be joining the Royal Australian Navy were I will complete my degree in Law and serve as a lawyer in the Defence force.

I have also started writing my book. Its about everyone. If i meet a homeless person on the street, then I will write about him as long as you can learn something from each person then thier life was not a waist, no matter what problems they find themselves in.

I was running, now, I'm going to fight and win

We all have our reasons for aspiring to join the Legion. We wouldn't spend so much time preparing (some of us) if we were not serious.

The day I take the flight to France, I will leave my entire life behind. There's nothing, nothing besides the Legion from there on. I think that's what most people think when they join the Legion. You sign a piece of paper where you hand over your life for 5 years. You're dead, you're worthless, you have no control over yourself, you're absolutely insignificant and there's not a goddamn thing you can do about it, it was your choice. You gave up absolutely everything in order to have this experience, you became a professional soldier, in every sense of the word.

I want to leave absolutely everything behind and just go and join the Legion. It will be like I never lived anything before.

Some simply don't want to live their regular lives anymore, some are completely bored, some have absolutely no direction, no real aspirations, some don't value their lives as much, some have had many problems and wish a fresh start, some want the benefits, some want citizenship.

All of us want to be in the boots of an elite soldier.

Welcome on board of RAN and in the (is)land of OZ and wish you good luck in your future life. Sorry to hear about the situation in your country - I am myself a migrant who left the homeland 17 years ago in frustration and hate of communism and found a new home under the Southern Cross. I recommend the book Down Under from Bill Bryson. A witty account on life in Australia, well from one person who traveled through the country in three weeks, but good reading.
    Cheers,
    Denny

It is the soldier, not the priest, who protects freedom of religion; the soldier, not the journalist, who protects freedom of speech. History teaches that a society that does not value its warriors will be destroyed by a society that does
