I have only an interest in Legion History and can not comment on Legion training, but most if not all armies you get mess around for the first year,I did my National Service in South Africa 1983-85 and the Boer corporals were expert at f%%%ing you about(I was english speaking so basic was abit like the legion for me) Then we you joinned your Battalion you were still at the bottom untill the 2nd year when you became a senior,we were based in South West Africa but somtimes this could get boreing..

I really don't see the problem here. You have to be open minded and ready for change in whatever form it comes. When i went through basic training for the military in my country I saw worse than that. If that was deterring for you then honestly no military is going to work for you. Military life is in no way close to civilian life. You do what your told when your told without question like it or not or there will be repercussions. You never insult or disrespect an officer or any senior for that matter. If i was to do that in my military i would have gotten more than 15 days in jail you can bank on that. More like 30 days restriction extra duty possible demotion and pay cut as well. I'm not harping on you just giving my opinion. =^)

Re: Back after 2 weeks in Aubagne

yeah, i spent 45/45 res and extra duty for cussing my chief out in front of everyone at quarters. got demoted from e-5 to e-3 cause i wasnt getting paid for e-5 yet. and because of underway time i spent 103 days without leaving that damn ship cause underway time doesnt count toward res. geez, a guy got put in the brig for cussing out a colonel, wtf, id have been givin 3 days of bread and water, reduced to e-1 and spent 6 months on the shittiest details before being kicked out with a bad conduct discharge. if all ya get is some jail time and some extra trash pickup for cussing a colonel, my goodness, thats easy st. i think some of the people who have never been prior military should join their homeland military first. when first hit my ship i spent 90 days working in the frickin galley, 12 - 18 hours a days, doin dishes and such. i mean, i had been to armorer school, rangemaster school, various small arms schools, and was in charge of qualifying the small arms for the crew and instructing reaction force for a bit, til i got in trouble, and i had to go back and work in the galley for 90 days. we had 4 hours of our day slotted for cleaning. menial bullshit, but thats how it is. one of my reasons for wanting to join the ffl is that i remember never drinking with a better bunch of guys than when i was in the military. if ya wanna be g.i. joe, it seems that the ffl has its share of that, but you can do sf or seals if your from america, they even have contracts for it now. when i joined if you got in any bit of trouble you didnt go to buds til reenlistment , that is if you even got the chance to go if your rating wasnt needed in the fleet. from what ive read, your chances to work in small autonomous groups in the legion are very limited. seems to be mostly traditional company and platoon type formations broken into 8, 4 and sometimes 2 man teams, but hardly any sigm of 4 guys runnin around doin some commando shit on their own for weeks at a time.

Nothing brings a group of people together better than shared misery.
"The idea that you're not allowed to experience something as human as exhaustion is outrageous anywhere but in combat. Good leaders know that exhaustion is partly a state of mind, though, and that the men who succumb to it have on some level decided to put themselves above everybody else. If you're not prepared to walk for someone you're certainly not prepared to die for them, and that goes to the heart of whether you should even be in the platoon."

Re: Back after 2 weeks in Aubagne

Lol i feel your pain the same thing happened to me in Norfolk. I got a bogus dui going onto an army base because the mp didn't like Navy. My command left me there all night and day before shore patrol picked me up. I ended up with 30 days restriction on the ship. It's not fun when It's 90 degrees out humid and probably 100 or better on the ship where your stuck from 7:00am till 8:00 pm wearing a hardhat, goggles, and a facemask chipping paint, When you do get a break for chow and go tho the mess deck the poic turns you away because you're too dirty. Then when you get back to quarters you get to spend another few hours stripping and waxing the decks lol. That's just an example of the variety of fun activities you get to do. Then after the most anticipated captains mass spent another 3 months in the brig at Norfolk. Just another day in the life.

yup, i didnt have it as bad as most cause i never served in a command with women, but you cant fart w/o gettin in some kind of pc nitpicky bullshit in the u.s. military, heaven forbid if you actually do something really wrong, then your ****ed. and its got a bit much estrogen at the top. i went to the second part of army infantry school with the guard when i got out of the navy, on the first day, some fat assed little 2ndlt girl with an attitude is bossin all of us around acting like some kinda bigshot. some superiors might do some ****ed up shit, but at least your not takin orders from some dumb bitch with a bullshit sociology degree who never in any way shape or form resemble what anyone would even slightly ackowledge as a soldier, much less a warrior. not sayin its all like that, but the day to day conventional u.s. military is one big pile of douchebaggery. i dont know anything about the ffl, but not having women in the ranks is a big plus. sorry for the rant, but the u.s. military is very pc, to the extreme. we where boarding ships in the straits of hormuz back after the first gulf war and we visited this dutch ship we were doin em with, and the frickin u.s. navy officer that went over with us wouldnt even let us have a beer with em. he wasnt even on the boarding team. so we sat there in their mess and watched em have few beers and hung out.

what a douchbag, the co can allow you to have beer or even grow a beard if u want depending on your time at sea. As far as women are concerned i don't believe they have a place in the military unless they are taking notes or something to that effect. I could ramble on about the women but it's not worth my time if you know what i mean.

I agree with everyone that says women should not be in the military. It would be one thing if they were held to the same standards as males but they aren't. I'm just going to let it go at that.

Bodica' Joan of Arc', The russian women of WWII and many countless others throughout the worlds history of war. They might pass 'P Coy or Legion basic but they'll NEVER pass CTCRM. I was there when that bitch was going through her 'helped traing'. She never earned the Green the way we did.
