    Poem for the French

    Poem for the French
    Written by an American

    Eleven thousand soldiers
lay beneath the dirt and stone,
all buried on a distant land
    so far away from home.

For just a strip of dismal beach
    they paid a hero's price,
    to save a foreign nation
    They all made the sacrifice.

And now the shores of Normandy
Are lined with blocks of white:
    Americans who didn't turn
    from someone else's plight.

    Eleven thousand reasons
for the French to take our side,
but in the moment of our need,
they chose to run and hide.

Chirac said every war means loss,
    perhaps for France that's true,
    for they've lost every battle
    since the days of Waterloo.

Without a soldier worth a damn
to be found within the region,
the French became the only land
    to need a Foreign Legion.

You French all say we're arrogant.
Well hell, we've earned the right--
    We saved your sorry nation
when you lacked the guts to fight.

But now you've made a big mistake,
    and one that you'll regret;
you took sides with our enemies,
    and that we won't forget.

    It wasn't just our citizens
you spit on when you turned,
    but every one of yours
who fell the day the towers burned.

    You spit upon our soldiers,
    on our pilots and Marines,
and now you'll get a little sense
    of just what payback means.

    So keep your Paris fashions
and your wine and your champagne,
    and find some other market
that will buy a French airplane.

And try to find somebody else
    to wear your French cologne,
for you're about to find out
what it means to stand alone.

You see, you need us far more
    than we ever needed you.
    America has better friends
who know how to be true.

    I'd rather stand with warriors
who have the will and might,
    than huddle in the dark
with those whose only flag is white.

I'll take the Brits, the Aussies,
    the Israelis and the rest,
for when it comes to valor
we have seen that they're the best.

    We'll count on one another
as we face a moment dire,
while you sit on the sideline
with a sign, "friendship for hire."

We'll win this war without you
and we'll total up the cost,
and take it from your foreign aid,
and then you'll feel the loss.

And when your nation starts to fall,
well Frenchie, you can spare us,
just call the Germans for a hand,
they know the way to Paris!

Like funny in the sense of how stupidly ignorant it is? What's ironic is that whoever wrote that would no doubt complain when someone uses our war dead to argue against something like the war in Iraq, yet they do the same thing to argue why France somehow owes it to us Americans to play our emperial biotch. Lovely.

Interesting... Long time since we last had any "French bashing" on this board. I love it... This brings us two years or so ago !

P.S : Tonight on French TV channel Canal +, they broadcast Farenheit 9/11 by the now famous Michael Moore. I'll watch it while eating my "freedom fries". I'm a couch potato, like 95% of the obese Americans (since we're on the clichés...) .

no, like funny in the sense that:

Chirac said every war means loss,
    perhaps for France that's true,
    for they've lost every battle
since the days of Waterloo. <<<<<<<<<True

Without a soldier worth a damn
to be found within the region,
the French became the only land
to need a Foreign Legion. <<<<<<<<<True

in no way am i disrespecting the Legion (i plan on joining some time next year) i just think that its hilarious how the French never really won a war.....
u can argue and say what about Napoleon and Joan of Arc, and i'll just say a Corsican and Girl that was burned at the stake.

Actually Spain also had one, and many American soldiers are foreigners........

France has lost every battle since the days of Waterloo? I guess that would explain why Kluck kept in step with General von Bulow's 2nd Army and successfully swung west around Paris. Oh no, wait. It was the French who drove the Germans back over the Marne in a general retreat after three days of battle with Fifth and Ninth Armies' break through.

Not a soldier worth a damn? France has one of the more professional armies in the world.

You have much to learn. My only hope is that you are looked on as an idiot and not an American when you open up your mouth next year. Bonne Chance!

It's funny but I'm nae laffing at the French. In fact I'm shaking ma heed at the sheer stupidity of it .

    Pass me a bucket , I wanna Puke .

What do you expect from a nation that eats 'freedom fries' and ties yellow ribbons over trees .

"Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabris, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam!"
(I have a catapult. Give me all of your money, or I will fling an enormous rock at your head).

A very good piece of advice often given to people like you, Mr Blk : if you really have such a poor opinion of the French (which is your right), DON'T JOIN the Legion. You'll have to salute the French tricolour flag, stand at attention when they play the "Marseillaise" (French national anthem in case you don't know), salute French officers, etc. etc. This could prove unbearable to you... provided you get accepted.

Ur right, i don't have high regards for the French. U see, when someone is totally consumed by hate and motivated on the sole concept of revenge, that person will do anything to accomplish his ultimate goal. So i don't really give a **** about saluting the French flag or stand at attention for the national anthem, it's not a big deal. i can do it.

I wonder what your experience was with the French that made you hate them so much. Please reply to my question via this forum or e mail.

Tthat was un called for i served France and was proud to salute the tricolor. And what about the brave men and woman who helped Brit and Yank POWs get home in ww2. The Free French, the resitance it's hi time we stoped slagging off countrys we all have bad pasts and knocking France is knocking us. No France, no Legion we all joke about Yanks, Brits, Frogs, Pols, Blacks just remember we're all the same all of us. The thread was totaly tasteless you should say sorry to Pat and all of the French on the site. There are some things you don't do and puttinng that pish up is one o them
yae though i walk in the shadow of the valley of death i will fear no evil for am the hardest bast..d in the valley
