    Exclamation How to: Mental fitness

Offtopic: Hi, I haven't written on the forum in a long time, almost a year now so I doubt anyone remembers me for those that do, the sensitive guy salutes you (with a cheerful smile and a middle finger) On the off chance that anyone's wondering how am I doing and how was my trip to Marseille, well ... I'm just fabulous however I have yet to experience that journey due to unexpected consequences (in a way that involves a one eyed snake, I won't go into detail though) however I do plan on leaving this August though (fingers crossed). Wish me luck!

Ontopic: Since I haven't noticed a thread about how to deal with the lack of motivation and second thoughts that probably occurs during training (not everyone's wired the same way) I'll share the methods that I've used and obviously worked out for me.

First of all, there must be absolutely no doubt in your heart that you want to join the legion and this is what you want to do for the next 5 years of your life. There will be doubt in your mind but that's just because of the hard training (for those who train hard enough). If there is doubt in your heart and you try to join just to "see how it goes" then you should fck off and stop reading this.

Secondly, just bear in mind that most motivation problems that you will find during training and life in general are just in your head, you create your own problems by telling yourself that this is too hard and/or impossible to do, so the important thing is to start training with the right attitude. I remember when I tried out for diving school and they made us do push-ups (at the time I could barely do 25 push-ups) because basically everyone was watching me I did a total of 55 push-ups in 2 minutes, so as I said it's all in your head. If you're training solo, which most of you probably are you will most likely need a strong motivating factor to keep you progressing (the legion should be plenty of a fcking reason for that but I suppose I can understand if you're still having problems) so this is how you "push through it" :

    1. While you're running and gasping for air and feel like stopping but you haven't met your daily quota yet, try to imagine that there's some perverted homeless guy that's chasing you and wants to do dirty things to you, or think that there's some angry, drunk legionnaire keeping up with you the one that will bash your teeth with his FAMAS if you stop... (my envisionment of flash010) you get it right? try to instill within yourself that feeling of fear that will keep you going. Or try telling yourself cheesy motivating lines like: "I can do this, Martin Scott was wrong, I'm not a spineless p*ssy" ; "I'll join the legion if it's the last thing I'll do!" ; "Come on just a little more! I'll show SeanG that I'm not a completely useless fck wit!" ; "What 3 km already?! that's nothing I can do another 3" ... you get the idea. Oh and another thing about this running business is that most of you don't know how to breathe properly, do this: normal breath in through your nose but try to breathe in your diafragm not your lungs (very important), exhale rapidly out your mouth, wait 2 seconds or count 4 steps then repeat. When you start feeling like you're suffocating do the same thing but this time breath in through your mouth.

    2. During pull-ups/push-ups/rope climbing use the same fear technique described above, this time think that there are a lot of people watching you and they'll start laughing at you if you give up, or for a more effective method, picture old man Stoeng with his FAMAS at the ready, just waiting for you to fail so he can shove it up your arse and kick you in the balls, you don't want that do you?

    3. Use a reward system, it should be something like this: #1 pu*sy (if you can't get any, the classic masturbation will do ) #2 cold beer #3 call in sick and take the day off to relax 4# sweets 5# buy yourself something nice

As for second thoughts those will go away once you're in shape, if they don't however and you're still in the "twilight zone" then don't join because you may get in but you might be a deserter later, be 100% sure that this is what you want to do, even if the legion turns out not to be what you had hoped for, honor your contract and the oath you took in front of the legion, serve with honor and fidelity. Remember that word, fidelity, remember it well, also bear in mind what the current and ex legionnaires say to you wannabes everyday: "You don't wanna be disappointed by the legion? then expect nothing from the legion"

So go out there "mon engagé volontaire" go to the gates of the legion and stand tall and confident, even when they'll break you, even when you'll be in your deepest moments of pain and sorrow, even when you'll hit rock bottom, arise anew like the phoenix into the man you never were, into the camarade everyone can rely on and into the legionnaire everyone can call brother! ... so what are you waiting for? do it, join the legion! (*cool badass expression*)

    Re: How to: Mental fitness

Most recruits during their training suffer some form of lack of motivation. This can be caused by all sorts of things; for example failing some test or other. That is the time to dig deep into your personal psyche. What is normally described as 'mind over matter'. Also in a good unit your fellow recruits will rally round and assist you. But it is up to you not to let them down and demonstrate guts and determination. Think positive and remember the want factor to earn that Kepi Blanc.

Jolly, jolly, gee gosh. All this mindless prattle about motivation. The Greens have demonstrated it. Even some old farts in 'blue' have done so with highly regarded units. Some others in 'blue' have made the journey and I tip my hat to them even tho' they were rejected. They know who they are and I respect them. Some great guys have even made repeated efforts.
As for the rest pontificating well I want to see; Action this day.
Now I can go back to sleep and as a shortarse, I can forget the waffle about standing tall.

Umm... it's diving not driving school, I can't just pack up and go which would be basically like saying 'feck you' to the people that offered me this amazing opportunity for FREE, that's right I'm not paying a single dime out of my pocket, actually on top of the free training and the european level qualification as a diver they're also feeding me and giving me a monthly allowance, so no 'En avant' now is not an option. My mind is in gear and I know exactly what to do and how to go about doing it thank you very much. En avant to the legion in approximately 3 months.

And your point is? Oh, another excuse... Honestly, unless is muff diving, I doubt there is anyone here interested in it.

If you didn't get my point from my post (which is literally in your face) then don't bother posting back just for the sake of posting, to quote you: I doubt anyone here interested in it. I lack the motivation to prove my point to someone who is both arrogant and ignorant.

P.S. - Change your country to Hungary because you're as much a romanian as I'm from Cuba

Thin skinned, hot headed, lazy and tells people what nationality they should call themselves. I can't wait to read your synopsis on why you didn't get in.
