Wait: is the Marche Képi Blanc really 60km?

I may be getting the wrong information but is it really just 60km? I don't use km here but I was told it is about 30 miles. I usually walk that several times in the Summer from my town to my cousin's on the high way. Which makes me feel a bit more confident as I've had times where I walk from 8pm til 5am and I really enjoy it actually. Especially watching my cousin who smokes everyday die after a mile. Am I getting my information wrong?

The length depends on the platoon Commander that will make the program.

Just like almost everywhere in the world, the platoon Commander will prepare and submit an exercise file to the regimental operations and after their approval everything will go as planned.

Obviously he has guidelines and surely plenty of old examples, but it will finally be up to him

Me too I've heard that it is generally around 60km. It's not much, but a good enough distance with full backpack and military gear. Especially for recruits. I've come across stories that the RAID march that comes after the marche képi blanc is much more demanding. And as I've understood, these marches are carried out when the recruits have been deprived of enough food, sleep and comfort. Also the altitude certainly has it's toll. So there are more than numbers into it.

And obviously if it's an Lt a 60km planned route quickly and almost without notice changes into a 100km route. Officers and their maps...

Many folks think of the Kepi Blanc march as THE march... the main march in basic training is the Raid march at the end. The Kepi Blanc march is actually not that long.

I won't get too over confident until I am actually there doing it.

I know, I'm just saying I wont get over confident not like the "i wouldn't get overconfident if i were you" kind of saying. I have faith and hope and confidence but not over confidence. Over confidence is just as bad as no confidence in my opinion

You havent been in the army right ? Guys who run every day 8 km barly make 4 km runs in army, its the same with marching, you can walk 60 km at home you will be daying in army at 30 km. Why is that ? With running you run at someone elses pace not your own, to slow than too fast never your own. At marching you will have 15 kg of equipment, uniform, boots, west, bullet proofe west, rifle. And to top it all they give you back pack of 20 kg wich will incrise presure on your sholders after 2-3h to the point you only think about throwing it of. So you will be 35 kg heavier than usual. Then there is thirst, if its wery cold like -10 C you will be wery thirsty if its 30 or more C, I have no Idea but it cant be nice. And the tempo will always be at maximum just a little slower than running pace. Oh and you wont be fresh for your march you will be exhausted from every day training, you will have wounds and you will probably be ill since everyone is in the army usualy. If you have fiver it will feel like you will colapse any second ... have fun

Oh 1 more thing somethimes when you finish you come in front of you base and you think just a few steps more beyond the check point and I am safe I can rest, but then officer suddenly remembers he forgot to go across some hill and you go back to check it out

wow the medical personnel in your army really need to get their act together.

edit: Ohh and if you are thirsty then drinking is a good idea! I know it sounds crazy but it DOES work! Trust me on this one!

Its a volunteere army so if you are sick they send you home and if you miss more than a week or so of training you are out automaticly or if you miss shooting or something important like march, so you hide your problems and try to sort them out yourself. And 1 l of water isnt much and that cup or two of tea you get on lunch stop isnt a lot either, maybe they get extra water during summer ? I was fine with that amount on 25 km but 60 would be chalange I suppose.

I don't know of a single professional soldier who would go on a long march with only 1 liter of water. Water is THE most important thing you can carry. Yes: even more important than your weapon or ammo.
