    Hello there from New Mexico

    Hello,

My name is Emmanuel, I am 25 years old; I was born in mexico and I am Leading a pointless existence in the U.S. Not a bad existence mind you just bollocks is what it is. What is the point of living like a gerbil on a wheel if the rats are eating your kibble and laughing at you?
I know i am not a bad person, in fact I've always been as kind and helpful as possible to those i could help, and sometime entirely too accommodating to those i should not have. Which leads me to My current situation. I've completely screwed myself by trying to help support my family. In doing so, I have fouled up my Citizenship in the United States and now i face possible deportation. Along with that my two older brothers, whom I've been attempting to help ride through a hard time have sucked all of the marrow from my bones.....
I realize this was my fault, entirely! I don't want their apology, but i do not want to continue to lead this form of existence.
I mean i could go into more detailed about my life but, it'd be a waste of time for you to read this is just a taste of why i am leaving and no longer want to stay on this continent.
The FFL represents not only a chance of starting a new for me, but it's everything I've ever needed to be in life, strong, structured and MEANINGFUL. I'd no longer be struggling by myself to keep the boat from taking on too much water with a tea cup. I've lead an interesting life, and mostly fun, lots of people and places i've seen and met. Unfortunately to what end? I've impacted nothing in any positive way, including myself! i live out of a duffle bag, and my entertainment is a few sketch pads and a guitar. I have not friends, and the only thing I am good for is being a beast of burden.
I have a lot of energy, and i've always wanted to join a military organization for different reasons at different ages, but since i fouled up my citizenship i am no longer eligible for service in the U.S.A. As for joining the Military in Mexico, i'd sooner chop my own cock off than serve that government.
Well now that i've completely belittled myself, i guess i might say something nice.
I am good at following instructions, I am even keeled and very slow to anger. I am in above average physical condition from years of living in pretty high altitude mountain country and working as a logger. although i am not some kind of super athlete or anything like that.
I know my way around a high powered rifle, I know it's nothing like shooting a person.
I've been living in relative poverty my whole life so i have a pretty low standard of living, which is something i am pretty proud of. Expect nothing, never be disappointed.
Again though, i really want to be a part of something important, something that will outlive me. I've never seen myself as a family man, and being the only one of four sibling whom is not married and without children, I feel I should do something else with my life.
I know in five years i may think differently, but this is how i feel now.
I am set on Joining the FFL. I know i may not have the honour, but i will be damned if i don't try!

I am pretty bad at writing about myself, and hope this was not a total waste of time for you.

    Emmanuel O'Daly -red130-

Welcome Red130! Learn some French, read the FAQs, get fit (search this site....), and sort out a visa. Then GO!

Well I am Mexican, so I don't actually need a visa to visit France. I am already saving up money, getting fit...er, already jumped on my French (*don't wanna be the only tosser being yelled at that doesn't have any idea what the NCO is yelling about*) and I plan to head out as soon as i have the money, which hopefully will be around early june. As for the Faq feels like the only way to go as prepared as I can get and just try my damnedest to get in. And thank you very much for the welcome. I am really glad I found this forum.

You mention your family , If they are important to you remember you would see very little of them during your 5 year contract, with the cost of flights etc you may not see them at all during this period, , on the plus side you could end up as an EU citizen and have the right to live anywhere in Europe. For a Mexican I think it would be a smart move to try and join , you obviously have a good level of English , now get stuck into French !

Just a second thought, as far as I know the Spanish legion takes South Americans, so no language issues. Google it.
