Minimum requirements are a joke. Even the USMC's minimum requirement for pull ups is a joke- only 3. however, most Marines max it out at 20. 5k minimum is 28:00 yet most successful recruits get closer to 18mins than to 28. The average PFT score for Marines is 233 out of 300.

Re: getting ready in 7 weeks

Shooting to meet minimum requirements is shooting to fail.

I'll use an example with the Navy SEALs. A friend of mine was assigned to be their representative at BUPERS for a while.

The minimum for the SEAL PFT, to be able to go to try to get in their program, is as follows:
Swim 500-yards using breast and/or sidestroke in less than 12 minutes and 30 seconds
    10-minute rest

    Perform a minimum of 42 push-ups in 2 minutes
    2-minute rest

    Perform a minimum of 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
    2-minute rest

Perform a minimum of 6 pull-ups (no time limit)
    10-minute rest

Run 1 ½ miles wearing TENNIS SHOES and SHORTS in under 11 minutes.*

Now, that's not a serious challenge for a guy in reasonably good shape, but the data showed that guys who only met the minimum had a 80% washout rate.

To get a coveted Officer slot in the SEALs is highly competitive, and when they weigh the evaluation they look at many factors, but one is a really good PST. To be competitive they recommend these scores:

Swim 500-yards using breast and/or sidestroke in less than 9 minutes
    10-minute rest

    Perform a minimum of 100+ push-ups in 2 minutes
    2-minute rest

    Perform a minimum of 100+ sit-ups in 2 minutes
    2-minute rest

Perform a minimum of 20 pull-ups (no time limit)
    10-minute rest

Run 1 ½ miles wearing TENNIS SHOES and SHORTS in under 9 minutes.*

Guys who met those scores generally had a 50% pass rate.

Don't coast on being able to meet the minimum. Try to crush the minimum.

Re: getting ready in 7 weeks

As a prior Marine I can say hope has nothing to do with training regiments..Pull ups are a joke and your more than likely mentally ******* yourself..If you think 10 pull ups then 10 pull ups is what you get..If you do 10 pull ups and you wern't shaking like a virgin on her first orgasm then your all ****ed up..Form is key! If your shoulders and back are strong then you should be doing pull ups with a wide spread forward grip..the wider the spread the less the distance of your chin to the bar..if you are stronger in the biceps and lats then reverse grip is what you want..if your are properly doing reverse grip pull ups you should be moving fast (especially on the way down) this will create a spring like effect..with all that said it doesn't matter what you are strongest at because you should be working on your weakest elements first..Also doing pull ups with a weight vest or anything similar will help as well..when you take the vest off youll feel 45 pounds lighter making pull ups a breeze..As far is running goes..if you are trying to get a 2 mile run in 12 minutes than start running 2.5 miles in 12 minutes..you may not be able to but thats not the ****in point..the point is getting use to running more than you need so when you need to run 2 miles your body is extremely use to running .5 miles more than needed and you can take that .5 extra and really put on the turbo boosters when it matters...

I thank you all for your comments. but after thinking about it, I decided nevertheless to go.

if I do not make it this time, I can always try again. then I have 3 months to get into shape. and know what to expect.

so i´am landing in paris on the 22nd. so yep logston.. maybe I will see you down there.
