That was very well put, brother, and I can't tell you how much it pleases me to be the first to say so!
Do you have a pair of those gold wings the corps uses instead of the real thing? Such perspicuity is usually a dead reliable sign that one does...

I've recently spoken to him about this forum and why he deserted he just said to read the book “Marching With The Devil” legends, glory & lies in the French Foreign Legion by David Mason, and I'll understand why he deserted. The author covers “the disillusionment, frustration and disappointments, and how the Legion today is not what it seems.”

My uncle joined in the 80s at 20 years old. There was no internet and very little true information available, just bar room experts, so I can imagine many who joined were in for a big shock at the reality of the Legion. You could not legally leave or buy yourself out in those days, so I can understand why so many deserted if they found out things were not what they expected. Why spend 5 years of your life doing doing something that you don't want to do ? And the other side I suppose is “does the Legion want men who don't want to be there ?”

I've yet to read it myself, found it on Amazon, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I think it was 'cos he/you was homosexual and the Legion doesn't tolerate that. So it was probably better that he/you fvcked off.

Oh how little you know. Also gaylord, don't assume others have the same sexual preferences as yourself.
