    Leaving tomorrow

I have decided to leave sooner than previously stated. I am taking the advice of certain Anciens and leaving asap - that is tomorrow - in order to avoid the extreme sun in the Summer, which is not a compliment to my fair and sensitive Scandinavian skin. Coming from a Scandinavian country and not being used to extreme heat I think it is better to join before the Summer in order to avoid dehydration etc. due to the restrictions on water drinking etc. in Aubagne. I don't really care-but if it ****s up my medical.....

Tomorrow evening my plane will land in Marseilles - then I will take the bus/or train/or whatever/or maybe march- to Aubagne and then spend one night in a hote. They are quite cheap I have heard, spending one day with sightseeing in Aubagne the following day -and then march by foot to the recruiting center-knock on the door about 4 pm inform them of my deep and sincere wish to join-and then hand over my passport! what a rush!

Is it possible to run or march from Marseilles to Aubagne-or is this less advisable due to heayy traffic etc?

I have considered not to take ANY luggage except from passport, credit card and running shoes which I have on me as they will take everything anyway. However, could this arose suspicion? Could they believe that I am totally nuts, or maybe only VERY motivated, or running from the police?

    what to take

this is an translation from the official Legion web site.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
what to take: Passport, national id card, running shoes, a change of underwear, shaving kit with shaving gel,and disposable razors, tooth brush and tooth paste, towel and wash cloth. 200-400 French francs (I believe that is 40 -80 euros).
    ************************************************** *******
What not to take: Cell phone or calling card, cd player etc., cumbersome objects, useless papers like photographs, diaries, love letters etc. knives or other object you can stab with, atm cards (i assume that would include credit cards) .
Good Luck and we hope to hear from you after basic training.

Just basics in personal hygiene, some money (for example, 100 euros in 5 or 10 euro notes and in different pockets all the time) and one change of clothes. If you have some time, visit Nîmes and Orange where 2eREI/1eREC are based. This can be your positive reference before stepping into the maelstrom of Aubagne. I hope your platoon leader is not too much of an animal..
GOOD LUCK/Bonne chance: stay calm, stay alert, stay attentive...Tell us when you're done with Castel: ya know where to find us...

    Take a train or alternatively
Hitch hike to Aubagne with a sign 'Légion étrangère': you're bound to get a lift...

I wish you the best of luck. Keep yer eyes open, and yer mouth shut. Remember two words: quiet strength.
    Good luck comrade.
    Sincerely,
