Hi,

A bit off topic here... but how many jumps a year (on average) do regular Brit Paras make, and how many do TA Paras make?

Even better if anyone can answer from a 1980s perspective.
Thanks

It is with great sadness and sorrow that I report the passing of one of the forum's most popular members and contributors, Tammy Lynn Booker-Stafford, who passed away April 18th, 2012. She was a friend to us all. Just go back and read her posts to understand the type of woman she was......she had more balls than most of you. Each time I see the Stars and Bars, the flag of the Confederate States of America, I will think of her......you should too. Rest in peace Dixie.

I'll remember you
When I've forgotten all the rest,
You to me were true,
You to me were the best.
When there is no more,
You cut to the core
Quicker than anyone I knew.
When I'm all alone
In the great unknown,
I'll remember you.

I'll remember you
At the end of the trail,
I had so much left to do,
I had so little time to fail.
There's some people that
You don't forget,
Even though you've only seen'm
One time or two.
When the roses fade
And I'm in the shade,
I'll remember you.

Didn't I, didn't I try to love you?
Didn't I, didn't I try to care?
Didn't I sleep, didn't I weep beside you
With the rain blowing in your hair?

I'll remember you
When the wind blows through the piney wood.
It was you who came right through,
It was you who understood.
Though I'd never say
That I done it the way
That you'd have liked me to.
In the end,
My dear sweet friend,
I'll remember you.
I was 21 when I got snlr discharge from Colchester for going awol (personal reasons). I liked being in the army! I'm 30 now and very dissatisfied with life. If i lie about my British Army record can the French find out? I've been putting off going for some time now due to this fact. Sorry if it's a ‘stupid question’ but i can't find any answers.
Cheers.

The VAB – which was coming back from an exercise – rolled over and fell at least 20 meters. One of the occupants, Ivan Vinkovic, a legionnaire aged 22, has unfortunately lost his life in the accident.
Four soldiers were also injured, two seriously, according to police. The most seriously wounded was evacuated by a Dragon 2B helicopter to the Bastia hospital while others were admitted to the Calvi one.

The last line Ce sont des tireurs au cul in the books it says in one that it means, because they're idlers in another, it says because they're malingers. But I looked it up in words in dictionary and then on Google translate and it says is it means these are shots in the ass. Which I would take to mean that they run away in battle or are cowards instead of lazy, malingers or idlers.

Is it bad a translation? Witch ones right?

P.S. sorry if its a stupid question

Another article about the Legion, on the same Secret Défense blog. You can see the French version here.

Since his departure from Djibouti, the 13e DBLE has become a very light structure in Abu Dhabi.

The Foreign Legion has always been permanently present outside of the French metropolitan territory. It now operates on three sites: two overseas departments (French Guiana and Mayotte) and a sovereign state with which France has defense agreements, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
His organisation has recently changed. Without going back to the dissolution of the 5e RE (engineering oriented) at Mururoa (French Polynesia) in 2000, the great affair was, in 2011, the closing of the 13e DBLE (Demi-Brigade de Légion étrangère) base in Djibouti. The decision, announced on this blog, has generated a lot of emotion in the Legion community and among veterans of the Free French forces. Finally, the "13" survived, but only in a reduced form. Today it forms the Army component of the French military establishment to the United Arab Emirates, the official name of the French military base in Abu Dhabi. Since July 31, 2011, the "13" is installed in Zayed Military Camp in the desert. This is a very simple structure of only 50 legionnaires, which will host rotating units - not necessarily Legion. Eventually, 350 Army soldiers may be present in the UAE. Communication on the subject is locked by the defense agreements between France and the Emirates - which is not without causing problems: French citizens have a right to know how their soldiers are being employed.
If the Legion is no longer present in Djibouti (except possibly as rotating companies, within 5e RIAOM), it has, however, been reinforced in Guiana. Since 2010, the 3e REI has two permanent infantry combat companies, as it had only one (others being rotating units). These two companies have two main missions: Opération Harpie, fighting against illegal gold washing in the region close to Brazil (Oyapock) and Opération Titan, protection of the Guiana Space Center in Kourou. This site now has three launching pads : on top of Ariane, it accomodates also Soyuz and Vega launchers. In total, the 3e REI has 450 legionnaires.
Finally, the Legion is present in the department of Mayotte (Comoro Islands, NW of Madagascar) in the form of the Foreign Legion Detachment in Mayotte (Détachement de la Légion étrangère à Mayotte, DLEM) - with around 100 legionnaires hosting additional rotating units. DLEM keeps the lineage and traditions of 2e REC.
In metropolitan France, the Legion has five regiments in the armed forces: the 2e REP, the 1er REC, 2e REI, the 1er and 2e REG. In addition it has 1er RE (command and support) and the 4e RE (training).
