Hello to everyone! I'm still new to this site. I'm a former police officer and went AWOL when i joined my family in London. could anyone please let me know if an AWOL case is an hindrance in joining the FFL. Many thanks, London 07
From what I understand, prior service in military and law enforcement is generally a plus. There are many cases in which ex-soldiers head for the Legion after they're kicked out of their National Armies (part of the whole "fresh start" concept). I'm sure there are plenty of Legionnaires that are "non-hireable" for many jobs in their home countries LOL. If you browse around a little bit, you'll discover the fact you have a blemish on your record MIGHT be to your advantage. Of course the Gestapo will note that you were AWOL (if you tell them), and generally that means you can't get another Public/Civil Service job in your country. The Gestapo knows this means you'll be more likely to cling on to your life as Legionnaire, and less likely to desert. Less options for you assures them of your continued service.
Thank you very much fiveOHsink for your comments!
I'm planning to join next year. it there's any certain dates of recruitment or just need to turn up in the gate anytime off the year?
No problem! I know the forum can be a bit jumbled, and TRUST ME the "Search" function does NOT work like everyone says it does. Then you have their nasty little attitudes! Here is a link for the Recruitment Centers: http://www.legion-recrute.com/en/ou.php?SM=0 The main center is at Aubagne, however the Legion will provide transport to and from (if you fail) any of the Recruitment Centers to Aubagne. They will not provide for transport or reimburse expenses for travel to mainland France. I'm heading over there between June-August of next year. You can PM me or drop a comment on my profile whenever you want. I've got a friend that's thinking about trying as well. Why are you trying out?
