Officers do not mix with the hommes du rang (enlisted men) and are generally resented by the Senior NCO cadre. This is not just the Legion but in just about every army. There are rare exceptions. In Djibouti you used to run into Officer and NCO's that were c*nts on the job but out of work and in some whore-bar would buy you a few drinks.
