It has just been announced that President Eyadema of Togo has passed away, while he was leaving the country to receive medical treatment.
Not a good piece of news for the stability of the sub region.

Bonjour Dietrying,

Not a Legionaire, but Idi Amin of Uganda (and later, Saudi Arabia) was in British colonial forces. I heard he was a cook. He attended parachutist school in Israel.

The famous commando raid at Entebbe Airport, Kampala, Uganda involved an Air France hijacked flight enroute to Paris.

The famous commando raid at Entebbe Airport, Kampala, Uganda involved an Air France hijacked flight enroute to Paris.Idi Amin was a boxing champion in the British Army and wore the dubious distinction on his uniform: "Conqueror of the British Empire".

He personally strangled an Israeli woman in her hospital bed after the Entebbe raid.

Edits and comments always welcome.

He contracted syphillis and died in Saudi...
