View Full Version : Stupidest reason for going Civil

I would like to share this. In Fort de Nogent I saw..well heard the stupidest way to go civil. A candidate was asked to sign his new name to some papers. He signed it his "old name". Not once but twice. What realy pissed of the caporal-chef was the fact that this Ivory Coast citizen knew French and understood that he was suposed to sign his new Legion name.
Not only was he sent civil for being stupid, they called the police to remove him from Fort de Nogent. Don't be dumb. They give you a new name. USE IT!!! Ask how you're new name "might" be verbally used. And hope to hell China Caporal in Aubagne ain't there when you get there....he NEVER got anyones name right!!!

Also don't play with the caporal-chef at the gates. I saw a person sent away for not producing/refusing to give a passport. Don't think you can keep you passport, you aren't needed or wanted in the Legion. Don't give them any reasons not to want you!!!

What exactly does Civil mean (in context of the Legion), I can make a few assumptions but I have not seen this term discussed anywhere else but here.

Now, I told you, go and get laid. And have a pleasant evening, struce !! :)

Being sent civil or choosing to go civil is the same. You leave the Legion. You get to go home to mama-papa, get to play station, get massage.
You are given back ALL your civilian stuff. You get some minor Euro pay and in my case a van ride to Marseille train station and a 1st class (free) ticket to Paris. After that??? The Legion dont care! IF you are lucky you are allowed back, how long till re-try??? Up to (I guess) the sergeant I can't go back till January.
Don't get your hopes up. I truly mean that. The chances of anyone making the grade is very minute. If you think I'm jolking about the MAYBE 1 in 1000 make red. Well just go, see the selection cuts every day. Be there for a weekend. Stay outside in shorts and a blue shirt in the rain. What I write now may seem easy to any and all that read it. Go, see, find out. But remember, have a return ticket, or coin in the bank to get back home. Cuz you ain't gonna make the Legion selection.

seems a bit harsh there mark, just because you didnt have what the legion wanted doesnt mean no one else does.

seems a bit harsh there mark,...a tad harsh..., just you wait, John, until you step over that threshold. And forget concepts of civilian justice.

Soon, my boy, soon you'll be DOOMED!!!! :D : "...Nous les damnés de la terre entière..." :D

And forget concepts of civilian justice. True enough Eagle Eye, when i go in i know it will be a totally different world, and i won't complain about it. If for some reason i don't make it through, i'm not going to come back home and log onto this forum and tell potential legionnaires:you aint gonna make the Legion selection.

How can a man who speaks and knows French be that stupid, unless he was nervous and underpressure and he forgot about?

Mark

Arnaude:
I have absolutly no clue why Ivory Coast was that stupid. Trust me it really isn't that hard to take over your new background. But we all thought it was funnier than hell.

Mark, my little girl....dont cry because u did not get it.....some has talent, others not. If u are not in, its because u were not capable of doing what they expected.

:cool:Flavian, you could be rejected because they don't like the looks of you. For example there was a former member of this forum who got rejected for something minor and went on to become a Royal British Marine. (top of his class).
ps. I did edit out the remark you made at the beginning of your post. Use the private message feature for that.

So if i show up in Aubagne, show them my pass port shut my mouth and do as im told using a french / english dictionary to communicate everything will go ok??? You realise a plain ticket to France from Toronto Canada is $1200! If theres a high rate of not making the list im not bothering.

Let me know whats up.

Do you ever get a skilled trade in the FFL? Like auto mechanic or Electrician? Somthing you can use once you leave the army? Or is it babbling and listening to a french guy tell you how to murder every day of the week?

Personally I prefer babbling and telling you how to eat babies, that way I'm never stuck for conversation or hungry.

And normally I wouldn't deem myself to answer shite from some twat who doesn't post a profile, but I suppose Toronto says it all!!!!!!!

A little less conversation, a little more action?
If they reject you I hope you have talent enough to eat your own comments.

Even if you are the best looking guy in the world or have been an excellent soldier for the last 5 years, nothing can gurantee you getting into the Legion, so if it was you want go for it, otherwise stay at home.

You are worrying about paying $1200 for a plane ticket, you think the guys that spent over 3 weeks in a bus or the guys that walked and hitchiked here from eastern countries were thinking about what if I dont get in.

Your chance is rougly 1 in 14, and sometimes you don't even get past the front gate. ;) So if your worried stay at home with the playstation.

Do you think us ex legionnaires would be sitting here helping you, if we had no trade, after your time in the Legion you are another guy and this will help you where ever you go in life.

Why worry, I tried SAS selection in 85 through the Artists Rifles (21 SAS) and I failed on the hills, and the reason I failed was because I wasn't fit enougth, I gave it my best and it wasn't there. I still have mates at H , beware of anyone who says they came off in the trees, Walters,

Why always Chinese?
Not all the Chinese are that stupid (If that so,just as you said). Why Chinese can get your jobs in your country?
Sorry to say that, maybe I`m a little mad, because of that we can hear somebody always say Chinese ...er, you know that.
I`m sorry. :(

bah, thats a bad attitude to have....i imagine if you square your ducks away, have a game plan for how your gonna run things in your head. Maybe rehearse a few questions you may be asked.

I imagine having all the proper documentation, and just being able to be completely flexible because you possess everything needed when asked.

It probably as in most military branches will go down to who the most squared away recruit is. From the horror stories I've heard thus far, most of these people go in without proper attitudes or game plans, and equipment(e.g. paperwork)

Wise up guys. Most of what you are reading here is a lot of crap......
(1) You will never be told or asked if you want to change your name at this stage. This choice (your choice) will only happen once you have passed selection for basic training and there is no obligation to do so.
To say that the guy was turned away under the circumstances stated at the start of this thread is crap..
(2) Just turn up, tell them who you are, prove it (passport ect), answer the questions put to you (they will be in your own language), pass the initial medical, don't tell them fairy stories about what you have done, you will be found out. Only then will you be taken to the selection centre at Aubagn where the real selection begins.
(3) If you don't get in you will be given everything back you brought with you.
Bring only what you require for your journey (Clothing for example). If you do get selected for instruction, you won't see your own clothes again (unless you are thrown out during instruction).
Any money you have will be put in a bank account for you, but you will not have access to it until you are either thrown out or go to a regiment.
(4) Selection is a bit of a lottery, there is no way to guarantee that you will get in, but your own attitude will have a major influence on how you get on.
Good luck to anyone who wants to try but pay little attention to a lot of the comments made by those who know, but haven't actualy done it themselves.

Thanks joette.I know that ,you have told me before.I feel better now.:)
You know,as a Chinese people , if you often hear that who you meet talk to you that Chinese people is so bad or maybe worse,no one can be happy.
Although sometimes, some Chinese is really not so good. But we still have more good guys.Of course,I think everyone knows that. It`s just... when people say Chinese make something into trouble (but the others can do it well),I felt sad. That`s all.:(
But,maybe Mark is right on that what he said.Maybe I`m a little too sensitive.:p
