3 RPIMA OFFICIAL WEBSITE
The 3° RPIMa participated at the war in Indochina, in Algeria the 3° RPIMa was commanded by the famous General (then Colonel) BIGEARD.
A very good para "colonial" regiment.

Sorry to correct you on this one Moon but 3° RPIMa did NOT participate in the DBP battle, and furthermore, in Indochina one didn't speak of para regiments but battalions.
The unit commanded by Bigeard at DBP was 6° BPC (Bataillon de Parachutistes Coloniaux), which later became 6° RPC (Régiment de Parachutistes Coloniaux), then 6° RPIMa (Régiment Parachutiste d'Infanterie de Marine).
In Algeria 3° RPC/RPIMa was indeed commanded by Col Bigeard until 1958 then by Col Trinquier. Its ancestor, 3° BCCP (Bataillon Colonial de Commandos Parachutistes) did participate in the Indochina war, but not under Bigeard's command. Under Captain Cazaux's command, it was in particular dropped at That Khe in Oct 1950, during the disastrous evacuation of Cao-Bang along the RC (Route Coloniale) #4. The unit completely disappeared in the operation.
