What do you guys think about his works ? I ve read a few of his books after watching the excellent TV series 'Band of Brothers' I m almost finished 'Citizen Soldiers ' and though a good book full of very interesting memoires and interviews with vets. of WW2, I find the authors American bias quite annoying. At times, it actually feels like the British and the other Allies were a hindrance in the war effort.

Having said that, I do enjoy his work and find it very educating to read some of the GIs anecdotes.

The late Dr Steven A. Ambrose was the one of if , if not, the NOT the definitive historian on the Second World War. At the time of his death he was a former professor of history in New Orleans and over the years has authored numerous books on the history of World War II. He was also the founder of the famous WW II museum located in his home town as well as one of the key individuals that helped establish the WW II monument in Washington DC.

While I was in graduate school in the 80s Dr Anbrose spoke at a symposium here in the Calif on the development of the famous Higgins boat (landing craft).

If you get a CHANCE read as many of his writing as you can, you won't regretit

Have you read the BOB brothers book aswell? or jus seen the series?

Have to say that the book was better than the series, the book describes things in a better way than the actuall TV thingy.

Yeah mate I read the book too. The books are always better as you get right 'into' it but i liked the series as well. thought it was really well done and was as real as any war direction I ve ever seen.

Been thinking bout buying the box set but if I join th RMs i wont have much need for them ;)

In the actuall box set there is an documteary about "Easy" and loads of more info than you dont get from the series. All of the surviving memebers talk about there experience and memorys of fallen "Easy" members.

If I dont remember it wrong the premier of the whole thing was in Normandy

yeah .... and I think it was the same guys who made Saving Private Ryan who filmed it . that explains the camera work , direction and effects... class.

The thing about BoB was that it had great action senes and was historic but it was also a great story as it followed the same guys from before DDay in England , right through to the end of the war. I actually found it a very poignant series .
