Interesting...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4084171.stm

He would have had to travel 800km (500 miles), much of it across Syrian territory. (BBC)

I remembered that Chris Ryan (member of SAS's "Bravo 2-0") had been walking around 250km...

Just heard from Federal News Radio that during the assault on Fallujah, the USMC found a building with his uniforms, ID Card and a book of his in a room. That's making them think that he deserted and changed in Fallujah. Somehow that isn't too convincing to me, just makes it seem like we aren't hearing the WHOLE story.

Things are getting more interesting...

Now the question is was he forced to leave his unit or not?

I think that when the time goes by, hardly nobody will remember him.

He may as very well has been taken Hostage for future decaptication on TV again ?
meh, it doesn't seem right. He is a muslim arbab, and he looks arab. If you wanna kill someone on tv, you do it to
a) scare the home country of the dead guy
b) make your supporters love you more

Your supporters won't be very cool with killing an arabic speaking muslim and frankly, I don't think america would be shocked as much by a dead arab soldier than a blue eyed, blond haired soldier like Pfc Jessica Lynn. I'll bet they go after "American" looking guys....

Sometimes inorder to find the "enemy" you must interact. Drop everything you know and have been doing for the past year. To find a wig, a beard, and rags to cover your ass. So ta speak to hang out with them.

I will believe that there is alot more, than what is being said. Giving a fact that they are blowing this out of proportion on TV. Maybe in a sense they are trying to get the message to the right people, that troops are "defecting" .

On other note i could be completely, wrong and this arab said the hell with it, im not killing anymore of them, because the Marines are being mean.

Past, the US won't broadcast, anymore on TV, till the message gets thru, then it will have a blanket thrown over the top, nothing will ever be said.

DanMitsu, you sure have an interesting point of view there, I was thinking something similar to that myself.

To the other guy who said that Arab Moslems don't really want to kill some Arab, I'd have to disagree, they love to kill each other for "collaborating" with the "enemy" (whether or not the victim actually collaborated or not doesn't matter), mostly to stop others from even thinking about it (or because they REALLY like the victim's wife/house/donkey etc). What bigger 'traitor'(to the "boo boo" mindset as Beau-Sheep would call it) is there than an Arab US Marine fighting in Iraq???

In any case, the journey that Marine took clearly indicates MUCH more was going on here than we are likely to hear about anytime soon (if ever). You don't just hop onto a bus/train/taxi, stop over a bit in Fallujah (don't forget it was barricaded by the US forces at the time), take a few days off enjoying the houri*s while finishing up reading your novel and then go 800km over Syria to Beirut, all because you are/look like an Arab. Just look at a map...

My opinion only.

All i know is that arabic speaking/looking people who are on the "Western" side of conflicts are worth their weight in gold. In my country, after recent developments involving muslim extremism, if you are able to speak that language you can get a job now (for sure almost) at the national intelligence office. BTW, in war there's always propaganda, history shows that information given by either side of conflicts is never to be trusted (fully).

From my experience, this guy is surrounded in controversy now and because of that, even if he didnt go AWOL, they will decide it is just better if he was no longer serving and quietly sweep him under the rug with an admin discharge, if there has been no misconduct it will probably be honorable.

When I was in the USAF we had a similar controversy with a few guys being gay and using drugs. The commander made it very public that these people (insert names) are guilty and will be locked up.

One of them turned out to not be guilty, in fact there was no evidence of any misconduct on his part. He was given an admin discharge (honorable), because he was on his first enlistment they can do that pretty much whenever they want.

Although the Commander had only arrived at this unit within the last 2 months, he was suddenly "Transfered" and we had a huge change of command ceremony after a congressional investigation into his handeling of this guys case.

Not to sound like I'm talking down about this stuff, I understand that there are reasons for that stuff, but I am speculating there will be some of this happening soon involving this Marine.

Who knows, we may see him on this board soon! If he gets discharged, as long as it doesnt read "Dishonorable" he is elligible for government employment though.

Just a note on this guy.... Just heard on Federal News Radio that he took leave from camp Lejeune to go home for Christmas. He has never come back. He is officially listed as a deserter and his name is on the FBI's table as we speak

It doesnt make any sense,. they supposedly caught him, in the sand box. With a rag on his head,. brought him back to the states,. no brig.which seems very funny, But sent him on leave for christmas. lol Now he is a desearter... Sounds like we are missing a few pages on the book. Poor bastard, Semper Fi
