This is my first post and may be of interest. Bazeilles day is the biggest day in the French Marine Calender.

Contingents from various Marine Units, USMC, RM joined the French Marines in the celebration of their greatest battle honour. This was in the Franco Prussian War of 1870.

For the first time in their history the Marsouins and Bigors joined and formed a unique Marine Division called the 'Blue Division' under the command of Gen.Vassoigne.

Bazeille changed hads 4 times with very ferocious fighting mostly hand to hand.

At the recent celebration the Cmdt.USMC and the CGRM were both made Caporal d'Honneur to encourage co-operation between the three nations.

In a pevious incarnation I used to post as P...Mod ATR*******.

There's a famous painting titled « La dernière cartouche » (the last bullet) depicting this battle of Bazeilles (small town in NE France). Bazeilles is to the French « Troupes de Marine » what Camerone is to the Legion.
Croquemort, you've got a strange 'pen name'... For the « non francophones » a croquemort is an undertaker !

Patrick/Sir.

1)Apologies for two spelling errors in post.

Am now awaiting to bury my father in France and look forward to being the undertaker's assistant ! We will dig him in deep ! Hence I considered the N.de P. apposite.
