Alright Lads,

Firstly, what a fantastic site! Many thanks to the contributors, nearly all of what I've wanted to find out or wondered about, I've found here. I plan to go and (try to) join the Legion in about six weeks or so and I have a few little questions which I'm trying to get an answer on, i've emailed the Legion but havent had a response as yet. I've got a little girl here in the UK, and I need to be able to support her financially to some degree. My question is how soon can I start sending money back? And yes I've thought this through. Also, how much disposable income on average, does anyone have in training? realistically, after essential odds an sods? Can I navigate the 'Legion saving scheme' I've heard bits about? I know they're not to hot on family ties, but she's my blood and always will be, I brought her forth into this world (in more ways than one), obviously it's a responsibility I need to honour.
This is pretty much all I'm waiting on, the sooner I'd be able to send something back the less I have to hand over before going. Just wanna bloody get on with it now...
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers people.

Welcome mate, you should post your questions in the Legion Today section for a better chance of response.

Good luck.

If you got a little girl i wouldnt join the Legion pal i would join the British Army if i was you because you will be lucky to see once every 2 or 3 years believe me you would miss her so much you would probably go awol when your down. I think you may have a few problems on your hands but the Legion is the last place you should be from your little girl your best bet is to face head on any problems you have at the moment. You can earn lots more money in the uk doing a mundane job there are loads out there. But trust me dont leave your little girl you will 100% regret it.

pay
the Legion collects a part of your check (cheque for you i guess) and puts it in a back for you, interest free though. You get it when you leave. As for your discretionary spending, it varies. Different branches receive wildly different pay rates, most notably being the desert and jungle stations.
You can send money back almost immediately. At first, you should buy some ¨gucci gear¨or nice shit the French won´t give you. After that, though, what´s yours is yours. Are you sure though that you can leave your wee one behind for 5 years? That´s a long time! Think hard about it

welcome to the board.

Is there any other choice for you to support your child other than the Legion?

If not...go. Kick ass.

If you can DO ANYTHING else...DO IT INSTEAD.

Thanks to everyone for their response!
Re: joining the Brits - it would be re-joining, and unfortunately I cannot be considered for re-enlistment, otherwise I would  . And I've tried a few times. I know I'll miss my daughter like hell but I HAVE TO SOLDIER, it's the only thing I've ever been good at or get anything from, for me to be any use to my daughter I have to be some use to myself and here in civvi street I feel like I'm going downhill, it's shite. I want to get back in, no, actually I need to get in. What's the point in living if you dont feel alive? You only live once. Old cliches but true! I have to walk my own path - Ex3para, Flash010, Joette, I know what yr saying but I have to go, it's not forever (tho the risk is there, and I accept it) and I have other plans for my long term future, and it's better to go now than later and besides that I'm 29, it's now or never if I want to be top of my game. Sgtofmarines, you see, it's not about money I can earn 25k just sitting on my arse talking shite with the homeless lol, it's about the job, and thanks, I will, terrorists everywhere are destined to be getting my size ten upto the knee
Dietrying, Thanks for the info mate.
Glad to be on board!
Regards,
