The Black and Tans by Richard Bennet!
those of you who have served in northern ireland as i have or are knowledgeable on the subject you will be very familiar with the subject matter of this book!!!!
Although they were only a small portion of british forces in ireland they were the tughest the wildest and the most feared.
They nothing about irealand. They were sent there in 1920 by Lloyd george's cabinet to make it a hell for rebelss to live in.
they could arrest and imprison anyone at any time. they murdered civilians. They wore a strange mixture of green tunics odd head gear (the scot's in the unit wor Tam O' Shanter's) and khaki trousers-a lot of these men were de-mobbed soldiers fom the great war and one of them is said to have been a legionnaire with 10 years service!
The Irish named them after a famous pack of wild dog's in county limmerick-The black and tans!!!
Richard Bennet's book is an accurate and authoritive account of an ugly and harrowing period in Anglo-Irish history- a period that the English have struggled to forget and the Irish cannot help but remember!!!!

Oh if only i tell you what stevie boy they were the answer to the troubles i don't care what you say being ex brit army we both knoow the score on the streets of belfast you know i was last there, summer 2004 Op Crucial on NIBAT3 as basically public order role to cover the marching season i at the time was b-coy who had it good there until some of c-coy's guy's were attacked by a nest of hornets whilts doing some green soldiering at the ranges at ballykinler so me and a few other's being jo bag's galore got dicked to join C-coy on the last march of the season supposed to be quiet etc OOOOOOOH fuckin' no got absolutley beasted up and down the ardoyne and i now have a huge thick ridged scar down my forhead and over my eye thanx to the wanker coy commander's "let's do it soft posture" idea and i got a fookin house brick to the head oh i'm still waiting for PAX to pay up!!!!!

Treatment like that doesn't work, it may do for the short term but the put upon populace are then more agrieved, Just as is happening in Lebanon at the moment, they may indeed break the back of Hezbulla but you could guarantee it will resurface again.

Took more than 20 years for the Britiszh Goverment to realise what they were doing wrong. I did two tours of and the general population just want to get on with there lives, I suppose like the guys in The Lebanon and Israel,how long is that shit going to go on and how many innoncents non combatants are going to die.

i think thats been the main problem in ireland...people are looking for the perfect soloution to apease all sides.....its like life to me, you just got to make the best of a bad situation..........it is no more than gansters who are useing there " CAUSE " to fund the lifestyles....they are all as bad as each other..........f*ckin aresholes...........
