Dunno about y'all, but getting to sleep is a major league pain in the ass for me. I workout late, and I work late, so oftentimes my mind is still racing when it's s'posed to be dreaming. That and I'm pissed off a lot, which keeps me awake sometimes; thinking about beating some jackshits face in, or slapping the shit out of my ex, (which I'd never do cuz she's a chic, but it's a nice thought).
Aaaanyway, I've heard bits and pieces here&there about natural sleep aids, but overall I'm clueless. I'm not interested in becoming dependent on anything, just want something to help my mind & body rest. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
WIII

Good hot shower after workout, get the lady in your life to give you good massage and drink a warm non caffenated drink before bed time, or get drunk as piss and forget everything, but try the first one, first, the latter may cuase you to relieve your stress out the target of your aggression, which isnt always too bad of idea

There are alot of different herbs and the like that you can use to aid you in sleeping.
Valerian is quite heplful to get you to sleep, it can be found in may different shops that sell natural medicines. Taking St Johns Wort can also help in sleeping. You may also have depleted Vitamin B levels, which can affect your sleeping patterns.
You may also have a routine before bed that may throw your sleeping patterns. Like crazysix said try having a shower before bed, but make sure you give yourself at least half an hour before you go to bed. Try not to clock watch, i.e. incessantly looking at the clock, calculating how much sleep you will get and whne you will get to sleepetc. Also, try not to be carrying out any mentally or physically involving activities at least half an hour to an hour before bed, your body + mind need time to slow down and gear themselves towards rest. If they are still funcitoning at a higher level, then you will never be able to get to sleep effectively.

Melatonin is a hormone that is naturally produced in the brain when you are in sunlight/daylight.
This hormone is controling your sleeping-pattern by making you feel tired and wanting to sleep.
People that are working night-shifts don't spend much time in the sun,and they often tend to have problems sleeping normally because the production of melatonin stops.
Melatonin is known to help people with sleeping-disorders,but the long-time side effects are not known yet.
If you use it,you are adding a hormone that should be produced normally in your body.
The result can be that you get too much in your system, that your body stops producing it yourself and so on.
Try some herbal tratment instead.
It normally won't have any side effects, and it won't make you an addict:p

Yes, indeed I have been busy!! Spent the last 2 weeks on the Eastern coast of Canada in Nova Scotia downing Alexander Keith's beer like it was going out of style. Almost a buck a beer!! Prior to that I was stuck here in Ontario drinking another East coast beer, Maclays. A buck a beer for that too!! Surprised I ain't been charged yet, coulda been 5 times in the past 6 months!! I kid thee not and it isn't for a lack of trying that I have not been charged!!
Anyways in the next month I head out to the field for at least 3 weeks possibly more..

I don't know for you, but if you have problems with sleeping I recommend twqo things:
a.) Take in your books any of the books by Noah Chomsky. If that doesn't hammer you in 10 minutes watch this photo continously for five minutes and try to make outwhat is this. After some five minutes you will get too tired an will fall asleep.
b.) http://cervens.net/legionbbs/image.php?u=636&dateline=1152668448
Always does the trick for me. :D

Melatonin does work I've tried it. But you have to take it for awhile before it gets into your system.

Thanks for the tips, folks. I'm not gonna screw around with the melatonin, but I might give the angry sex a shot... or two... or one and a half... depending on how I'm feelin'. :D
Coffee knocks me out sometimes, too, but almost always when I need it to pick me up. Kind o' counterproductive.
I'll head down to the local hippie shop and ask 'em about herbal sleep aids when I find a spare minute. Right now it's time for bed. 3 good hours of working out today, and it's showing in the bags under my eyes... good times.
