Hi,
I'm an ex-legionnaire did 10 years in the Legion then went off to Ireland for 2 years now back in France, living in Aubagne, 1 mile from the base married and busy working. If anyone as any questions on the Legion and If I can answer I will do so.
I used to be on this board every day while in Irleand the oldies will remember me as EX ENGLISH LEGIONNAIRE.

I read your amicale profile and you were in the 3eREI, Guyana. Loads of questions will be asked of you.
Can you just start with a short description of your time and path in the FFL ? There are a couple of Repmen on the board (Voltigeur from BEP in Algeria, Beau Sheep and CaliforniaJ) two from 2eREI (yatez44 and myself) but no 3eREI former legionnaire. So, go ahead.

Well after CASTEL, where I finished quite high I got to choose where I go so I chose Guyane the 3REI. I was only 19 at the time and about 60 kilos...
I turned up and after my basic jungle intro 3 days was sent to the 2nd Cie 1st Section. We spent a lot of time on "missions profondes" (going out into the jungle for up to 40 days) and "missions fluviales" (on a sort of boat for three weeks). Will explain more about this later. We also spent loads of time at Regina on commando courses. In Guyane once you have done one mission profonde and Regina you were Qualified to have your Commando Badge GUYANE. Me i was lucky that my Section was sent to Martinique to the 33 RIMA to do a Commando course and it was much harder than our Legion course probably due to the lack of experience we had on it. Other time was spent guarding the Space station when ever there was a launch a hell of a time being bit my insects. At the base most of my time was spent at the POUF a hoar house that closed in 1995...
Well any questons on the 3REI Guyane or 13DBLE where I spent a horrible 2 years from 1998-2000 just ask and I will answer.
By the way all you wannabes the weather here at Aubagne is great it is at the moment sunny and about 14°C...

Hi Kieron,
I remember you from the old board, but never got around to ask you the following. What did you do when you were in 1 RE? What is worse, 3 REI or 13 DBLE, and why? Looking forward hearing from you.

Hi,
Thanks is good to be back on the new board... After Guyane I had a little accident where I fuXXXXX my knee up. Needed a little rest so I passed a CTE and CT1 in administration. Was at the Foyer then with the commissaire then got lucky and sent of the 13.
Well the 13 is ok except the heat and the robbing ladies on town. It was 2 years as a bad trip for me, getting into trouble on town etc....
If you want more precise send a mail.

Bonjour EngExLegionaire,
Can you clarify by saying a few more words why you found the Martinique course more difficult than the Guinea one. Usually would not the 2d course proved LESS difficult because of the knowledge and experience from the first. Any clarification appreciated.
Besides Martinique, is there anything you can say in public, ie not restricted, on any other French military training in the Caribbean, ie Basee Grande, St Martin and Guadeloupe.
Warm regards,
BobW

I served in the 1er REC from 1959 to 1964 except for the basic training and the last three months in the 1er REI Aubagne at that time. They were still building the Caserne. See my web site for more info.

This formal FFL document could be useful if it includes vocabulary for the wannabes.

Life after the Legion can be ok. Sorry been busy answering lots and lots and lots of emails from wannabes... Put your questions on the board that way other can benefit from the answers and my email box won't bug.

Can you describe the different components and phases of a mission profonde in the 3eREI with special attention to difficulties (health/food/water) and first hand account of problems faced (Evasan or worse) ?
Also can you describe 'section déforestage' if it's still going ? I heard the nutcases went there or came out so. You could start a thread 'Deep forest Mission in the 3eREI' or with similar name.

Hi Folks,
Got in today a great new video from German TV. Free for all Anciens of course. The video itself is the most up-to-date footage...I have not watched it but message me if you are interested. Language is all German !! Keep that in mind. All you need to pay is the Postage and $ 1.00 for the Blank tape.
All my other videos on my website in regards and of the Legion are as always free for Anciens too.

Kieron,
It is awhile since I have been active. Good to see you back. On the old BBS you noted the old man was relocating to your neck of the woods and you were a regular contributor. Also you kindly wished him well.
Am still with MOD but had to change all contact numbers for this board.

KieronHello Kieron , Greta to see you again,
Yes I had a death in the family and had really no time to do much, specially come here, had to be around wife for a while, and work is busy too, so I had no time, still have no time, tomorrow I have to go to the hospital too, now I have an Alsar ( spelling ?) in my Tummy. In July they took out my Galbladder and now I got some other issues again.
I guess I have to start smoking and drinking again, I was never sick back then....now where I try to live healthy I get sick all the time....but hey keep in touch !!
