All you gotta do is look up on the net somewhere how to carry out the Beep test, you should be able to get an electronic copy of the actual beeping. All you then need to do is find a space 20 metres wide, and run it! If you are reasonably fit then you should be able to make 7.5 - 8.5 no worries. Just follow what the link Slivovitz put up says, run the Beep test reasonably regularly and you shouldnt have a problem with passing running tests. You can make it interesting like one we had to do one time, where when you reached the line you had to get down on your stomach and wait for it to beep again, and then jump up again. Trust me, its a prick of a thing, but if you do it in the freezing cold rain and mud like we did, then it is really delicious. BTW what distance are you looking to run in what time?

Hi tz9,
The thread slivovitz put up is very good info. Endurance training - long distances and interval training are key to passing i think. They say on here that you only need to get level 7 to pass for FFL, but of course a better score will help you.
A beep test is done as a pre-joining fitness test for Royal Marines before they can go for the two day selection, i believe level 11 upwards is required to pass, and this is the region that i would be looking to acheive as a minimum.
You can download a beep test from the net, but if thats not possible a good sports/fitness shop or even local gym might sell them where you live (not sure where that is cus you haven't done your profile ;) ). I personally got mine off ebay for 99p, and now test mysellf once every couple o weeks.
All the best.:)
thanks for the info, but if i train the Cooper and get 2800 is that fine for beep test?

Both the Cooper and Luc Leger are designed to test your VO2 Max (your bodies ability to take in/deliver and use oxygenated blood).
If you can run the Cooper 2800m in 12mins this gives you a VO2 Max level of about 62. VO2 Max of 62 in the Luc Leger will give you a finishing level of 13 - so theoretically, seeing as you only need level 7 to pass you should have no problems.
BUT the Cooper and Luc Leger are two different tests - the Cooper is achieved by running consistently, whereas the Luc Leger tests you more intensily over a shorter period of time, with the levels quickly becoming more intense.
I strongly suggest including interval training along with endurance training for Cooper. Getting a copy of the bleep test is not hard and a very good way to monitor your progress - aswell as giving an advantage of doing the test before you get to the FFL.
The advice already given to you is sound, i think you should re-read it and execute it because it is better advise than just being able to complete the cooper test.
Since the fitness forum has opened here i have taken much of the advise on board and shaken up my own training plan with significant improvements!
What is interval training? Can you give me an example or program on how to do it?

Interval training consists of intervals of hard work and short periods of rest between. An example is to run/sprint intervals of 400m, and the rest period could be another 400m but in a slow pace where the goal is to prepare for the next burst of energy.
4x400m/400m means 4 intervals of 400m (fast pace) and a 400m recovery jog or walk between.
If yoy want ideas of how to do interval training, check out;

Be sure that you have some miles in your legs before you attempt interval training, as it's a very intense activity.

What level are you at? Did you complete the test at Aubagne? How did you find it + how well did you do there?
I've read that you don't get time to warm up and getting enough water is a problem also whilst at Aubagne. Got any tips?:)

is the beep test standard around the world? I downloaded a beep test from an aus.army fitness site. just checking incase the time intervals between beeps are different from one military to another military or a military to sports.
