I got a shocking answer when i call the FFL in Aubagne for I asked some question. One of it was I told them I was short sightedness, will I be able to join the FFL without lasik. The legionaire told me that there is no problem, on selection just bring along my glasses... Are candidates with short sightedness able to join without lasik now?

No they probably have an agreement with the Tourism board of France, where by they try to encourage anybody and everybody to come - and - when they are rejected from the Legion, hope that they spend some time in France; Spending Money :D

Just a theory and a possible answer to your Question.

Another one might be that they have a chair in Administration with your name on it!

Actually, the correct awnser is this. No one in the Legion (Aubagne) is allowed to discourage potential EV's. It is against the policy for the CAPLE and other bureau's. You could call and ask if a one legged bastard child transexual blind goat can join and they will respond with..."just come here and try out". Although, you must understand that anything is possible in the Legion. They may just accept you...or they may not. But as for what the legionnaire told you... it was a script (he had to say that). The Legion cannot accept or deny anyone over the phone, policy!

This info was included in attacment of e-mail sent by recruiting office of FFL. I
dont`t understand what those other numbers mean but there is mentioned
correction in dioptres of -10, sounds bit heavy to me.

2 – Medical aptitude:

Minimum visual acuity:

* uncorrected: minimum 0,5 for each eye

* corrected: or [7/10 and 2/10], or [6/10 and 3/10] or [5/10 and 4/10] (total: 9/10
with the two eyes)

Correction in dioptres:

* near-sighted: -10

Might not have been a sniper, might have been a Legionnaire who grabbed the rifle from a freind and took the photo, there is alot of that in the Legion...wannabies till the day they die, i guess!

On that note, is there in particular rules regarding the use of weapons and their allocation.

For Example:

If I preffer, can I pick up a couple of AK's and strap them to my back, or is that a "no no" - or is there any kind of "Weapon Selection"?

Yes there are rules!!! everyone is assained a weapon depending on what schools you have or what your section needs. However when your out in the field you can ask your pal to let you use it for a photo(why i dont know but ive had it happen to me--i was a machine gunner--mini-mi). There are only basic weapons in the Legion(at your level) specops is a little different. If your lucky you will only have a FAMAS your hole time in.
