"volunteer defense force". It is part of the states Army National Guard but is NOT deployable outside of Michigan. Even the training is done in state. They were created in 2004 to fillin for the traditional reserve units during emergencies while the other units are deployed. They are nice, even put soldiers up in Hotels like the sheraton while training. I had a room with a jacoozie in it( if thats spelled right). Sure beats my old unit I can tell you that. They have about 170 but need 500 members. If any of you know anyone in Michigan can you tell them about it? They accept veterans or qualified civilians, military experience helps but isnt required. Even if you are older or have mild disabilities that would prevent regular military enlistment you will most likely still be allowed in. They work with the state police,ANG, and health dept to pass out vacines in emergenices(among other local missions). They get vacinated first. Afterall dead soldiers cant pass out medicine. So memership is a cut to the front of the vacine line if birdflu hits. They are still new and need more recruits. Can you guys think of anyone in michigan that would be interested?
