I know many questions have been asked about eyesight...my question is...are you allowed to get any laser eye surgery while you are in the FFL?

Well, that is kind of tricky....If you are found to have had the problem before the Legion then you will be marked as "Inapte Medical" and then most likely sent home with little to no help. However if it is found that your problem occured while in the Legion then everything the Regular french army specialists can do they will....if the problem cannot be fixed you will receive a fairly decent medical payment and then most likely sent home. Again i must stress that everyone in the Legion is different and every case different. My close friend we will call him "Jefferson" was wounded in Brazzaville, shot in the mouth, lost most of his teeth and has had some 14 operations on his lower jaw, he still talks pretty funny. Anyways, the Doctors had called him "Inapte" so he was going to be sent home after the operations on him, then along came President Chirac to visit. Chirac had asked what could France do for him, since he had done so much for France, well Jefferson being who he is asked to remain in the Legion. Long story short, Jefferson is still in the Legion! I guess Chirac has some power after all, LOL. everything in the Legion is changeable, nothing is in stone! But really are you going to get Lasik surgery in the Legion....i think not!

I was wondering the same thing. Any update on this? Can you get lasik/prk, at your own expense, while serving in the legion?

Doesn't LASIK have some prep and recovery time? Wouldn't you need some time off to get it? If so why would the Legion bother with optional medical care. If they let you in in the first place then they must have considered that you didn't need LASIK.....

I looked further into it and Yes you are definitely right. I figured i'd be able to get it over leave but I did not count in the time it would take for my vision to stabilize.
Atleast six months apparently. Lasik Recovery Time ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
