Hey there-I've been a long-time lurker here and only recently registered.
So here goes-are they so short on medics that someone with my background (5 years as care assistant, currently in intensive care) would be pretty much ordered to serve as one?
Or are there so many applicants that they can take the best of volunteers.

PS.glad to see the site back up-it's kept me interested for a good while ;)

There is always a need for platoon medics. This is CTE12. I was a platoon medic for two years though I had no previous such qualification but I stated it from the beginning in Castel and on arrival in regiment. You can be trained in CTE 12 after one year more or less in regiment. After this given period, you can apply for the regimental infirmary but it depends on vacancies.

Again, the French language is a MUST for you to be considered for the CTE Santé course. Usually, the French get it but I was fortunate to go on a course with an Italian pharmacist who also was fluent in French. Other specialisations you can get by with average French but average fluency is important. Your backgrounnd can be sueful but I can't determine how useful. French is your starting point. Do you speak French ?

Not done any French since my schooldays, lol ! But since I am not planning to join until 8-12 months away I will be learning as hard as I can. Thanks for the info. I was thinking it would be pretty basic, so again thanks ;)

In the REP the medics course is the most sought after course in the world, people would chop off a bollock to get on it. It's done in the military hospital in Marseille. Imagine how the guys wanna get on this course... Uniform like a Christmas tree a white képi and pair of wings and all the French nurses in the world to try and impress! Paradise!!!!

I never got on it! Bastards!
